Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 3

My girls and I were looking at pictures from our last week's trip. I said "I loved taking you to the princess breakfast the day when you wore your princess dresses. Do you think that you ever want to do that again?" Both of them said "Yes." So I asked "Which princess do you think you want to be?"

What does my four year-old say? Not "Snow White because she was kind" or "Cinderella because she is my favorite." No, she said "Aurora, because she has the cutest dress."

I have a dum question for ya. I have a cheapo brother sewing machine Dh got me for my birthday a few years ago. (Apparently he is under the impression that I want expensive things and never use them! :rotfl2: ) Anyway, my question is are most sewing machine feet universal? I am always scared to go into the sewing maching part of the stores. Maybe I am afraid I will walk out with a $4000 serger or something.

The foot on mine just kind of clicks into place. I think I remember the one on my mom's having to kind of screw in. I would love a ruffler foot, some kind of clear or quilting foot for applique and a walking foot. I have no idea what that last one is but it sounds cool. :rotfl:
That I know of, the ruffle feet are all screw-on attachments. Meaning they screw directly onto the presser foot arm.
Most likely, You can use a screw-on ruffler foot on a snap-on footed machine :)
Look up alittle above the foot, on the presser foot arm / "bar" = you should see the screw to remove the Snap-On-Foot-Attachment part right there. Attach your Ruffler Foot with that screw.

I love the click-on / snap-on feet! and when I switched to all-metal machines, they all had screw-on feet ... + I had all these snap-on feet I could not use all of a sudden. ... :headache:
Then, I found this WIZARD Snap-On Foot "adapter" (*they used to carry them at Wallymart, but you can still get them online & at some other retail stores) ...
It's like a new "top" to put onto your click-on / snap-on feet, to use them on a screw-on-foot machine :)!

Here's one online place, for more info.

+ they have a chart to help you figure out which to get for YOUR machine :)
Here's my feet ;) (*Click to Enlarge*)

I'm not an Amy or a Lisa of any spelling but my name is Tifani and I buy too much fabric. Yes, ever caught in the proverbial "what if I theres not enough" state of mind.

For all of you out there complaining about your basic sewing machines or wishing you had something fancier...Last night I wanted to reconstruct an old mens oxford into a clever tank top for me(liked the thought of mixing the man-ly blue pinstripes w/ something girly)

My MIL has been busy w/ projects of her own. My machine is at my moms. I went to pick it up and she says, really it's acting up I should have it serviced for you- you can't use it now. BUT she has this handy dandy Singer my grand just picked up at a yardsale for 5 bucks ( I don't know it was that cheap but I do KNOW my Grand so I'm sure it wasn't more-it's possible it was free) I look at this ancient NO, WAIT.. IT'S VINTAGE machine and say, yeah but how do I change the stitch..you don't, my mother replies just the size of the stitch. NO zig zag. UM, I can' twork w/ this...SEW'S LIKE BUTTAH!!! and after reading the original 1941 handbook I see that among the 20 crazy attachments I found and have NO CLUE how to hook up- a RUFFLER!!

Now I'm not going to say to hell w/ a satin stitch this is the only machine I need, however I am going to be learning how to attach that darned ruffler!!!

Heres a pic-I found it on e-bay (current bid $149) though I can't convince my mom to sell it. It has the original EVERYTHING including the bottle of oil it came with. and is in mint condition. no pitting no damage brand spanking new looking.

Haven't put the straps on my shirt, I'll be sure to post it when I do, who knows I may just add a little mickey to it for good measure!
...t.

Very pretty!
See the screw above the presser foot, up that "arm"/"bar" a bit = that's the screw to use to attach the ruffler foot.
Just make sure the needle can pass through the ruffle foot correctly, right before you take off ... :)

I keep a pair of tweezers right by my machine just for this purpose. It makes it a little bit easier.

Do you have the Brother Disney Embroidery machine? I just got mine about a month ago. I love it! Have you found any of the embroidery cards? My Walmart doesn't carry them. I guess I'll end up ordering online.
I bought it on Sunday! I love it. Except for the tedious color change part.
And I’m stalking the cards on that auction site.
I have not been successful at getting them for the price I want, but I will eventually.
I refuse to pay retail!

I picked up the ENTIRE BOLT of minnie dot fabrid. 12 yards. What on earth am I gonna do with 12 yards of minnie dot fabric?

See, I knew I'd found kindred spirits when I opened this thread. LOL I knew I had a problem when I was at the cutting counter and before I could tell the woman the length I needed, my then 3yo DD said "We'll take all of it". I realized that too often that's exactly what I'd say myself so I've tried to really scale back. The most I'll buy now is 5 yards unless I have a specific need for more - and I never really do. Still, I know if I added up what I've spent for fabric in my stash, I'd think of it in terms of how many Disney days that would have bought me instead. :thumbsup2 Here's a photo of just some of my stash.

oK, DON'T PANIC. I found it next to the clown prints. In "my" Walmart, it was on an end-cap. I've also seen it mixed in the $1-$2 fabric bolts. Whenever I ask about it, the ladies point out a smaller dotted version. :confused3

It was next to the clown fabric in our store too. But I only bought 2 yards! I have no idea what to do with it. I put it in the pile with the giant Minnie dot fabric I bought at JoAnn's and the mini Minnie dot I bought at Hobby Lobby (I have actually been using that one) So I have different size dot fabrics.

I thought the clown fabric would be cute for a JoJo skirt. But I don't have anyone to make one for.

One tip I'd like to give those with a new ruffler foot. Make sure the screw for your sewing needle is as tight as possible. The motion of the ruffler make the whole machine shake a bit and the needle can come loose (and break soon after) if it's not been tightened well. I break enough needles without that happening so I've learned to check the needle screw everytime I get ready to put the ruffler foot on.

I just made this for a friend's 8 year old, for her birthday present.
She does not like "frilly, ruffly" things to wear. :)

It only took about 1-1.5hrs. :)
The fabric's from last year. It's the wall/quilt panel, that came on a yard with 2 pillow panels. It was on clearance at Wallymart, not long back.
I'm not sure it'll fit on a smaller Tshirt or dress, but if you can figure out how to "wrap-it-around" just right, IT MIGHT?! :)
I'm going to add some glittery fabric paint before I give it to her. Gotta have pixie dust!
I suggest HANG DRY ONLY on this one, for easier care/no iron.

I would have loved to applique it onto a SKIRT for her, but I'm not sure she'd wear it.

FOR THOSE THAT DON'T SEW or are NEW-TO-SEWING =
You can make this! Use Under-Wonder to attach the design, and then use clear fabric paint to seal all the edges :) Super Easy & Fun! You can even have the kids help.

Your fabric stash is making me really jealous.

And we definitely need oversewers anonymous. I can’t concentrate at work!
I’m picturing ways to do a nemo appliqué right now!

And I have a confession.
I spent 19 dollars on 2 yards of fabric yesterday.
It has celery on it.
For me to make a shirt for our DIS meet.
How dumb is that?

I think I need to join the oversewers anonymous. I am leaving for Disney tomorrow and I haven't packed yet. Umm the custom clothes are hanging in the closet altogether and that's as far as I have gotten. The suitcases are in the same closet and I need to do a couple loads of laundry or DH won't have any underwear.:lmao: THat wouldn't be to bad but I am wondering if I have enough time to quickly sew a camp shirt for DS before we leave!~:rotfl2:

I love the celery shirt idea! Not dumb at all! I can't wait to see it. I better get packing.

Holy Majoly, that's a lot of fabric. I mostly have fabric swatches from when I worked at a furniture store. I couldn't throw away perfectly good fabric! I have a couple of things I got for projects I don't even remember and I have no idea what to do with them.

I noticed that little screw above the foot, I was wondering what that was.

The minnie dot at my Walmart was with the quilting stuff on the top shelf. I am SURE this was brought in for Halloween so why would they put it with the quilting fabrics. :confused3 I think it was inside out too so you really had to look for it.

This was gonna be my next question! I've had this problem several times this morning - the needle comes completely out! I can't seem to screw it in tight enought. Maybe I need to use pliers or something?

That came out so cute!

Girl - I could kiss you!!! (well, ok maybe not really ;) ) but You are a lifesaver!!!! I ran out to Hancocks and they didn't have cr-- ugh, anything left in the patterns. I'm taking you advice and heading to Wally World as soon as I can get my cranky toddler moving!!! Luckily, DH will be working late so I can also sneak in the many fabrics I bought without having an eye roll from him!

YOU ROCK!!! Not to mention you cracked me up with the prayer!!

OMG! Last night that is what I did! I brought an extra big bag with me. I put all my new fabric treasure in the bag and through two stuffed animals ontop. When I walked in the house the 10 new yards of Minnie dot were not spied!

Although, that does not even come close to when I left the receipt for my full foil highlights on the the front seat of the car. He handed me the receipt and said I do not want to know how much this stuff costs!

Even with a quick glance, the colors and prints in that stash have me positively drooling!

Lisa! I love your STASH! I think I'd always need the one on the bottom of any given pile ;) A bunch of it looks familiar

DRATS! You've got Michael Miller's ironworks fabric...in every color! I am so jealous! I can't find it anywhere!!

That's exactly my problem. The fabric on top of the cubicles are what I use on a regular basis. I did that thinking it would be easier to reach but the stacks have grown so high anytime I try to get fabric out, it's usually near the bottom and I fear an avalanche. I should mention, too, that what's in that photo is probably less than half of what I have in boxes, bins and bolts wherever I could find the space. I'm determined to sell or donate much of the fabric that I probably won't ever use but it's so hard to part with any of it. I'm just sure as soon as I do I'll have an idea for the perfect project for that now departed fabric. :headache:

Can I have the Michael Miller ironworks?!?! Pretty please!??! :goodvibes
