IF the new foot has the same height from bottom to attachment screw, AND the hole for the needle to pass through are the same as your older foot = you SHOULD BE Good To Start Ruffling ... =) ...
Once you get the ruffler foot home, put it on the machine = slowly test the needle, to make sure it can pass through the foot.
IF It doesn't, return it.
IF it does = Get messy with some scrap fabric strips! !!!
Play around it for awhile & you'll get the hang of it, in no time.

So now I'm guessing that this is something I'll have to go to a sewing shop for? Probably can't pick one up at Walmart huh? Maybe Joann?

I posted this pirate set. We bought it on eBay and its soooo cute! I'd be glad to take some close up pics of the corset if you think that might help. I know she used little eyelets, but other than that, it *looks* pretty simple.

I really like Simplicity 3680 like someone just suggested. We're actually modifying the top on it to make a ruffle shirt for DD. The corset looks very similar - just add the tulle skirt!

Let me know if I can (try to answer) specific questions or if I can post some pictures you think might help.

Would you mind taking a close up of the closure of the corset, and also maybe explaining how thick/firm the corset is? Is it pretty stiff? I think that would help a lot! Thanks so much!

Do you have a picture of the back of this dress? I am trying to figure out how to make this style and I know the front but I've never done the halter style before so I need to see the back. Or if you could easily explain the back that would work too. Also how did you attach the straps to the back elastic? I would prefer that rather than tying around the neck. My girls would find it bothersome I think. Thanks for any help.

Hi Amy, I don't have a picture of the back of this one...but let think...For this one, it doesn't have a back bodice, it has a strip of fabric that was folded over and elastic was inserted. The straps were finished off on the edges and pinned into place on the back. Then I just carefully stitched them into place above the elastic and below where the strip, meets the dress. If you are careful and just stitch over where you already sewed then it's not noticable. and the good thing is, that you can remove the straps with a seam ripper and move them, as the child grows, to get a liitle more wear out of the outfit. I will try to post photos of another outfit that I did that is the same...if I can find a back picture...The cow outfit just got mailed to
CampingGriswalds today...LOL

Can anyone tell me more about the ruffling foot? Can it be put on any machine or is it for a specific one? Is it worth buying if I plan to do LOTS of gathering? Or just keep doing it the hard way?

IT IS WORTH IT!!!!!! Mine cost $29 for a Husqvarna machine. I would think most machines would have it as an add on??? It gathers the ruffle and attaches it to the garment AT THE SAME TIME!!!!

I found some photos, for Amy....this bodice is the same as the cow one. and it shows the back...

This one is from last fall. I just remade these bows for her to wear with another fall outfit, that I haven't made yet. I love fur cuffs but her school doesn't. She comes home with paint, chocolate, whatever...all over them...so we save them for the weekend or special occasions...

I haven't looked for one @ WallyMart = I dunno if they carry them.
I bought My Ruffle Foot at JoAnn's, a long time ago. (Approx. $15-18 ?)
I've seen them at Hancock & Field's Fabrics, too.
IF the ones you find at those stores don't work for your older machine, then I'd suggest checking the Regular Sewing Centers.
They'll probably either have one instock, or can GET one.
OR just go there first. I'm not sure how much their mark-up is, it might not be much.
IT'S TOTALLY WORTH THE TRIP TO THE STORE !!!
After you get used to using it, you won't believe how you ever lived without it !
Here's pictures of mine, it's original packaging, and my foot I compared it to.
As you can see my machine's not "new", from the 60's or 70's (dunno exact year made).

Pluto isn't that big. He's only about 3 inches high, maybe 5 inches wide. I did the zig zap (satin stitch) around the outside, but even the narrowest (is that a word?) stitch would have been too big. Since I had this foot, I thought I'd try it and it worked pretty good. The foot is so you can do freehand sewing. There isn't a feed, so you can move the material all over. (I have a plate to cover the feed dog). So I used it instead of hand stitching. I think I only paid a couple of $ for the foot.

This is the jacket I use the foot for usually. I don't know if you can see the stitches on it. On Pluto, I used it to "draw" the paws, the collar, the lines in his back. I just used a small stitch and went very slow.

I just love that jacket. So cool. Ok, I get it know--it's instead of doing the stitching free-hand. Thanks again for explaining.

It does look a bit scary, doesn't it?!
IF you've never seen one in action, or felt it = the first time you do, it's weird & still sort-of "scary" ... but then you can see what it does & how easy it is!
I got that foot at JoAnn's ...
It's made by White, but it fits just about any LOW-SHANK footed machine
Singer, Morse, Viking, Brother, Bernina ... etc.

My Brother Serger SUPPOSEDLY can Gather & Serge at the same time, but after many, many hours trying to get it to work right, I gave up & bought this puppy. I Love it!

For those wondering about the disney machine, here are a few that we did. Be careful with the type of stabilizer you use, it can gum up the needle and break the thread. I'm still learning how to get the right placement for the pictures. So here they are.

Can anyone spot the mistakes!

I am sure it is the stablizer. What i did to start off was to use felt and make sure it is in the hoop TIGHT< TIGHT, TIGHT! So tight that it is impossible to get the hoop together pretty much. That was my practice, with felt, I didn't need a stablizer. After that I had bought tons of different types, now I like best one sold by the yard at walmart, it is thicker and Does NOT iron on or stick on. I just put it in the hoop with the shirt or whatever. it is almost felt like.

I joined a yahoo group when I got my machine in 2002, it was so helpful but has died out. Search disney brother machine though, they were oh so helpful in times like this. Towels do well too. I don't like doing tshirts much, especially cheap ones, they stretch too easily aren't that thick. Try a jerzee brand sweatshirt from walmart, those do well. Towels are fun too, or blankets. Once you get the hand of it the shirts will look better though.

Here's one I have that's sort of upclose. Does that help any? What part of the closure do you want to see?

I will take some more pics tomorrow. The corset is really not as rigid as I thought it would be, which for DD was good. I was concerned about it being uncomfortable, but it really doesn't look it when its on. It's maybe the thickness of denim just to give you an idea....it does have some body, but it allows her to bend and move, too. I hope that makes a little sense.

I know I said it before, but Geez, that is so adorable! I love the cows with bandana fabric. I need a good excuse to buy some little cowgirl boots for my dd.

Makes me want to try something cool like that. I can see that at Hoop dee doo or the Backyard BBQ. Very Fun.

OKay, I do believe I have gotten the hidden hem stitch down-pat. I'm thinking that's a great skill to possess. Also, It occurred to me to use a different color bobbin thread than needle thread if sewing layers. I love the "light bulb moments" that are common sense and make life much easier.

And, I have remembered to wash and dry and press my fabric before sewing. Little Sewing 101 hints and tips.

Thanks everyone for posting your creations! I can't tell you how inspired I am from everyone's beautiful work! You inspire me to think outside of my comfort zone and I get a kick out of every tiny improvement!

I love shopping on "that auction site". Am I allowed to share a cool boutique? I think it was called "The Pedal Pushers" or something. She has a good eye for color and lines. I love her pillowcase dresses, and she is for sure a huge Disney fan. Is she one of you?

Hello....I'm new to this thread. I've been trying to read through it for days and can't seem to find the end. It's addictive..yes, addictive I say!! In any case, forgive me if this info has already been posted, but I really wanted to share my latest purchase from the Disney Store.

I just bought a pair of ladies stretch denim jeans, with Minnie Mouse painted down one leg. The jeans can also be viewed at DisneyShopping.com. They really remind me of some of the cute handpainted childrens' clothes I've seen on Ebay. We need cute clothes too, ladies!! As an added bonus, the jeans ran big and I had to buy 2 sizes smaller than I normally wear. Yes Virginia, there is a size tag fairy!

PS - It's wonderful to know I'm not the only one having crazy fun dressing my DD in boutique/custom Disney clothes!!!

I don't remember who made this dress, but I LOVE it.

I have the fabric and thought I'd use if for DS. But I want to make one of these, too. I was wondering if the back had buttons or a zipper or what it looked like. Also, the red cord thingy around the waist. Is that part of the bow or something else? Any help is appreciated!

I didn't actually make this dress. I bought it on that popular auction website. It has buttons up the back and I am pretty sure she used a Daisy Kingdom pattern. Sorry, not much help.
