Hey everyone!! I've been busy sewing as usual..Today I'm doing a huge shipment of a million things. so I have been packing up outfits today.

But I had the extra time to make a special cow outfit, for someone...LOL...

So, if there is anyone out there named Audrey that likes cows...let me know...LOL:rolleyes1

Oh, that is so cute! Audrey should be very, very happy when she gets this in the mail.

I do something similiar to your applique technique. I don't have a light table but use the living room lamp. It's a huge dome made of glass. So I just lay the image on the glass and presto, light table..LOL:rotfl:

I used a light under my glass coffee table for years =)! :upsidedow BE CAREFUL NOT to burn the carpet with your light, though. :scared1:

Before that, I used a window (during the day), but I would get kinks in my neck from drawing upright like that for so long. :headache:

Recently, I made my own light table = I used 3/8" 2% white acrylic = so, I can iron/press right on it, without it breaking (like glass) or bowing (like the thinner acrylic) ...
I got the acrylic at a wholesale place nearby, AS SCRAPE = so, it cost me about $20, including the light! ...

Someday = I want to make a 4" table version with shop lamps :) *ahhh, to dream*

PS = I ABSOLUTELY LOVE ~YOUR~ WORK! Great job!

Here's a picture of the ice cream fabric I found. I'm thinking maybe twirly skirts with an applique top. We'll see though!

I love, love, love this fabric!!! It reminds me of Grandpa. "I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream." I'm all teary now. Your comments about Tessa were so sweet. Of course she's gorgeous, she's named after my gorgeous sister! The other day, I asked her how I got such a beaufitul girl and she said "It's because you're pretty, Aunt Teresa is pretty, and grandma is pretty." How sweet is that?

Heather~ Great job! You are really cooking now!

OT we have had some bizzare things happening with our 15 month old.. She has a 6 month gross motor delay and both the Pediatrician and the Pediatric Neurologist know why... Her PT has been pushing really hard and she has developed some pretty intense fatigue. It is causing her to have an eye roll in and sometimes up... Yesterday we thought she may have had a seizure but the Docs think not.. I just haven't have had a lot of time to create but I am living vicariously through you all! Say a prayer for us !

Thanks for the compliment! I was starting to wonder if it was a really ugly dress when no one commented on it!

I have a 13 month old son and I can't imagine how it would feel if he was having problems and we didn't know why. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. If you don't mind my asking, what does PT stand for (I have blood clotting disorders and for me PT stand for Prothombin time)?

Heyyyyy! Guess what? I'm doing a jumper with that exact print! YOU have fabulous taste and that is a really cute dress!

I've never even heard of shirring. I just bought the ready-done tube dress material and stitched up one side and VIOLA! Your's is way cuter. I wrote down your tips, thanks a bunch.

Loved your duct tape comment. We call it "duck" tape in our redneck family!:snooty:

Thank you so much for the compliment! Tessa is wearing her dress today and she looks so adorable in it. Ariel is her favorite and it's not easy to find cute Ariel stuff. I think the shirring should go well for you since you have a brand new machine.

I have a few things in the works but nothing completed yet. I should have the Monsters Inc twirl set finished today. Destiny really loves that movie for some reason. She wants to watch it at least 3 or 4 times a week. Maybe because she can actually understand what Boo is saying. :confused3 I'm also planning a few more outfits. I need to use all this fabric I've collected over the past few months.

My daughter loved Monsters when she was 2 and 3 years old, too. I never considered it might be the language thing! :lmao: I think it's a really cute movie, too. I have some Monsters Inc flannel that my wonderful sister gave me. I haven't decided what to do with it yet.

Your work is amazing! Thanks for the tips. What do you use as a stabilizer? I tried the iron on, tear away for the first time and couldn't keep it ironed on. Is there a trick to this?

I use varying iron-interfacings mostly (with my tshirts) ... I use tear-away with my machine embroideries & SOMETIMES on my regular work = I don't prefer it, though.

Mostly (with my overalls) I just use a nice white, thin poly/cotton blend fabric with lightweight under-wonder on it = this reeeeally helps with the transparency of some fabrics AND to stabilize the design (for sewing AND wash & wear) ... =)

When I use that white fabric = I DO NOT Use heat-n-bond, though = it gets too bulky ... but then again most of my designs have too many layers & overlaps to use heat-n-bond anyways ...
I buy under-wonder by the bolt now ... & I PANIC IF I ever run out.

hope that helps. :)

This fabric is adorable!!!!

I vote for twirl skirts. I think you should just get all of the colors in it (turquise dots, yellow stripes, orange gingham, etc.) and mix them all up. Get a bunch of different colored rick-rack and sew over some of the sections. This is a great print!

I got some adorable guitar fabric at hancock's this week. I paid $7.99 for it:scared1: , but I wanted it soooo bad. Now I want to go get this too, but the colors are almost identical. Did it come in any other colors?

Oh, and you could applique an icecream cone on a tank top for each of the girls. You could use beads to make the sprinkles!

OH MY GOSH!!! I didn't really like cows before 5 seconds ago :rolleyes1
That is one sweet outfit! I absolutely LOVE the style! Did you use a pattern, or did you create that? (I have a feeling you just wipped that out! Grrrr! ;) ) Again, your dd is adorable! You are amazing!!!! :goodvibes

PrincessLeighsDaddy ~ You did an AMAZING Job! :cool1: DD loves the dress! She wants to know why her Daddy can't do it! :lmao:

2cutekids ~ Nice Work! Love the Cindy!

You and your daughter are in our prayers. I know exactly how you feel. It took us years to get anyone to listen to our concerns before we got a diagnosis for ds. Hang in there. If you need someone to talk to just pm me.

OMG, you guys are so amazing and so inspiring. I don't sew. I have a sewing machine for 3 yrs now that I am too scared to take out of the box.lol

Any tips for a newbie. I'm not going to try anything like you guys but I would like to get started.

Just so you all know, UtahMama is evil!
She’s gotten me addicted to this thread now. And it moves so fast!
She wouldn’t post her projects anywhere else, so I had to search through millions of cute outfits to find the ones she did.
And now I’m inspired by all of you!
I’m putting the finishing touches on all my scrapping/stamping projects tonight, so I think I’ll start sewing this weekend.
There’s only 2 problems.
1. I’ve never sewn outfits. I’ve done drapes, pillows and pillowcases, but those are almost all straight lines.

2. I have no kids!

My partner and I are taking some kids with us in September, so maybe I’ll sew for them.
And then sew coordinating outfits for me and her.

Bottom line – I’ll be posting often for help!

I was just answering the question on who made those outfits that iluvwdw4ever had posted. :)

Just about any pix can be used as a pattern for applique, really :)
Even clipart off the net.

I'm no expert, but this is how I do it & it works well for me. :)
I just make a black & white line drawing of what I want to applique, enlarge it to the size I need & use it as a pattern.
Just about any picture will do ... Sometimes, it makes it alot easier to make some drawings into an applique, by removing some of the super-fine-detail . :) ... tiny bits look best embroidered or painted on, by hand (most of the time)

There's many ways to turn a picture on paper into an applique =
here's two ...

1. Use a light table ... You can cut & piece the fabric pieces by hand to make the design (I use wonder under to hold it all together), overlap ALL pieces touching (KEY!), and make sure you cover all overlaps when you satin stitch (zig zag) the design = so that all the fabric stays intact.

Personally, I adhese all my fabric with under wonder first, then use the light table to trace the design IN REVERSE from the paper design to the back of my fabric ONE PIECE AFTER ANOTHER, cut them all out *with tiny bits of overlap allowance added* ... then when I attach them together, I take those pieces and use the light table to line them all up on the paper design, before I press them together ... ... it's easier than it sounds/reads, really.

2. no light table = try this = Tape the REVERSE image paper drawing of the design to the back of a piece of fabric (lightweight, as a backer) ... take pieces of fabric that already had under-wonder on them, lay them ON TOP of the back fabric, turn it over & STRAIGHT STITCH through the design, on the lines of the picture. Turn it back over & TRIM the new fabric semi-close to that stitched line. ... Repeat this over & over with all the fabric pieces you need are in the design. ... when you are done, remove the paper image, press the design, put under wonder on the back, trim the design to ready it for application ... satin stitch all fabric edges in the design = poof!

It's magic. From paper to outfit.

either way, it's alot of work.
But With Practice, Anyone Can Do It. :)
Good Luck in your endeavors.

thanks we love to applique. can you share where you found that clip art with the star wars theme. I would love to try and make some for my kids.

You say "evil" like it's a bad thing :confused3 :confused3

Hi Celery!! "Ms. Stalker"!

Ok, I have only done actual wearable items in high school (My mother used that apron I made for years because she felt sorry for me). So I read the instructions on my "SUPER EASY pattern" carefully and said many clean-cuss words...and "The Purple Ariel Outfit of '07" was born. I Just finished "The TEAL Ariel Jumper '07" and it has a liner and a blind hem!!! :cheer2: I'm so proud! But my model is pissy right now. I have to psych up for a photo session with Her Magesty with about a 44 ouncer of cherry diet pepsi and some kind of chocolate :rolleyes1

MY pathetic jumper is not worthy to grace this thread after the cool Cow one just posted! But I will to prove that even a super-dork beginner like me can create something marginally passible (just don't look at the underside).

I just got the coordinating fabric that goes with this!! I'm just waiting for the poppy fabric to come in the mail. I'm making a similar outfit for a Cowgirl birthday party DD has in a few weeks. I love the back and the layers in the front!! I may have to CASE this one!!!
(CASE=Copy And Steal Everything!!)

Or "CAB"? Copy And Butcher!!! :rotfl2:

Edited to add- that's in MY case, anyway!!! Sorry, that looked like I was insulting...EEEK! (Never!)

Oh my, that is the ultimate compliment but I'm no way experienced enough to be sewing for others. I would probably have a nervous breakdown because I would want every stitch to be perfect so for now, to keep my sanity, I only sew for my DD.

Lady, you already promised to let me know when you start selling! I want to be first on your list :)

You are truly talented.

I finished DD's babydoll/twirl top that goes with her Smiles Around the World capri set!!

Here's the original set. It's great on it's own!! I loved the fabric so much that I made a twirl top to go with it!!

IMG_1443.jpg

I made the top to match. I couldn't come up with a fabric I loved for the bodice so I used a denim looking material.

She's "modeling" the pantleg!?!
