I've also had two non payers lately with our favorite auction site. People think they can take forever to pay, and that you will just sit and wait. Sorry, I don't. :rotfl: I give them about 20 days to pay and that's it. It's a shame. So I had to relist the famous, look-a-like outfit that I had some complaints about making. So here goes again...:rotfl:
I will post some photos this weekend, of the cheer outfit and of my kids of the world outfit that it sitting here looking at me...LOL

Suggestion - make the bidders list private on that one so 'they' can't contact your bidders and cause probems behind the scenes. It's against the rules to contact people like that, but it sounds like these guys are jerks that might just do that! (and I wonder if that's why the winner isn't paying - they harrased her/him so much they're willing to have a non-pay strike. :confused3)
And, maybe it's just supposed to sell for a LOT more than you were getting!! Good luck getting a great price for it!
Maybe CYA and put a comment like "I saw this general design over a year ago and just HAD to make one similar to it as it was SO cute. Imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery." :confused3

I can't believe you wait 20 days! I give them 7 to 10 days - whatever I decide, I post in the auction as "payment requested within x days. Non-paying winners will be reported and item relisted"

Elisa- I've been window-shopping on that auction site ;) and I am in heaven!!!
So sorry for the slackers not paying you! I don't think people realize the total waste of time and energy that a non-payment creates. I usually pay the minute I "win" so I won't forget.

Is there a listing of you ladies seller names? I'd love to see what y'all are selling and most likely be a buyer. If it's for a 4T girl :cutie:

OK. I've got myself a killer SEWING HANGOVER!!!! I decided I don't know how to sew after yesterday. I truly only possess the most basic of skills and have the "as long as it looks good" mentality. But not having a serger, my seams are not as pretty as I'd like them. Plus I have extreme difficulty reading an "easy" pattern. I better start getting "Super Duper Easy...Do it in 1 hour" type patterns. :rolleyes1 I've decided that sewing a seam with the two needle method looks a lot better than my semi-crooked one needle straight stitch. I did my very first zipper last night. It turned out....sorta ok. good. It works. Luckily, dd has long hair....

Since the dot fabric is your favorite, why not just make it the "dress/skirt" portion entirely? Then it would be beautiful and flowing. I would then maybe the stripe as the bottom ruffle. I really like the strip work style, probably the best out of any custom style I've seen, but when you are in love with one particular fabric, don't take away from that fabric.

I agree, if you LOVE the dot, hell make it the whole dress and use the stripes as a ruffle on the bottom and at the bodice. Why not!!

and can anyone tell me where this apron style top that ties in the back is? Someone made it w/ this minnie/mickey dot fabric a bit ago. Thanks!!

I'm curious as to the apron pattern too. I made my last one without the pattern...LOL..

I used Butterick 5019 very easy. I used pink for the back because the fabric store didn't have a whole lot of fabric and I liked the look of another apron style top I saw. I think it was posted by castle creations.

This pattern is easy because there are no sleeves, no collars, no gathering. You just add bias tape around the edges. You do have to make a couple button holes. My machine does a good job with that, and you can't see them so they don't have to be perfect.

Hi everyone! I've been working on one last project (outfit) for someone and I've finally been able to start something for my dd. She wanted a Minnie cheer outfit, so I'm almost done with the skirt. I ran out of ribbon and rick rack this morning, so that was the end of that. LOL. I don't know what kind of top I will do, it depends on what she'd like.

Great to hear you are working on something for your own family. I know your DD will be thrilled. Seeing pics of Ireland always makes me think of what my DD might look like when she gets bigger.

You might not see the resemblence but I've shown my family your pics, and we all agree.

Have you thought of not posting the dress on e-bay right away, I know sometimes w/ bidding you can get good money, but if you gave someone on the board a chance to buy it (there might be rules against it?? i don't know) then you could skip all those pesky e-bay charges and make another dis'er happy.
It'd be worth taking a few PM's about,I'd bet.

Wow! I haven't been on for a while - darn that whole work thing - and there is so much to catch up on! Such cute outfits, everyone! Those smocked outfits are so gorgeous! I've been considering learning to smock, but I think DH may cut me off if I pick up a new hobby! Between scrapbooking and sewing, my checkbook has been hurting!

I've got a couple of new creations! One for DS and one for DD - well, not so much for DD as she is just modeling it, LOL!

Ok - now to catch up on all the new posts!

I love the Cars shirt! Nice appliques!

The Minnie Safari arpon shirt turned out great! I LOVE the way you modified the pattern! I was wondering if you had just made your own until I saw your post about modifying the Butterick one!

Here's the first shirt I finished for DH

These all look great! You guys are going to look awesome on your trip!

First of all, I don't know how you all did it,but I started reading this morning even before I got my COFF:surfweb: EE (the boss is out!)

I LOVE stripes, especially striped ruffles...I used a stripe in my stripwork cuties dress, which is in the photo album (at least the fabric is). And that stripe is the dot's coordinate so I wouldn't hesitate to use it. Someone said to use more of the dot fabric, I don't see why you couldn't just use those two fabrics. I think, depending on the size of the dress/top your making sometimes(not always, no flaming- I wan't talking about any outfit in particular!!!) more fabrics is overkill.

GLORIB!!! I hadn't thought to use minnie fabric in my AK outfit- This might mean back to the drawing board. Good thing I haven't had time to actually start any of my projects!!! JEESH!

So here's the rundown...
Before OCT I have these projects to finish
MK outfit (HAVE the minnie Dot already): Minnie dot redondo-style spiral twirl skirt (possibly attached to the top half of bib-overalls, if I can make it work!) w/ shirred dot shirt w/ short puffy sleeves (does that make sense?) I may make pants to go w/ this since it will be the end of OCT though w/ this heat I don't see it being very cool then either.

AK outfit(no solid idea yet), Epcot outfit (material is on its way) possibly a twirl top w/ jeans??)

My Snow White Nappy bag and bags for my MIL(POOH) and her BFF(MICKEY)

PLUS I have to finish knitting this darned afghan before my nephew arrives in late aug. OH, and I have to make a zoot suit for DH, flapper dresses for DD and I and who knows what for my son for MNSSHP-which I FINALLY have tickets for (on the 28th)

Okay, who has a magic wand I can borrow?
...t.

At least the flapper dress should be pretty easy! Just make a tube and sew on some long fringe and add straps. Wear some really long pears and voila! You're a flapper! The zoot suit is gonna be a little more tricky!!!! Have you found a pattern for that yet? What are you gonna make that out of? Wouldn't it be cute for your son to be a gangster? You could put a scar on his face and he could be scarface (I can't think of his name right now, I keep wanting to say Al Pacino but I know that's not it.)

Does your sewing machine have an "overedge" stitch? I broke my serger last Christmas (sewed over the zipper foot from my sewing machine that got stuck in the fabric of the dress I was making! :headache: ) and in my desperation (crying, throwing a fit, telling dh what an idiot I am, hating myself for ruining my expensive Babylock serger, etc.) I realized that my sewing machine had an overedge stitch. It does take a little more time because it doesn't move as fast as a serger, but then again I don't have the mess of having 2 machines out.

I honestly don't think that I will ever get a serger again. I am sooooo much happier with my work not that I am doing it all on my sewing machine. Everything seems to look so much neater, inside and out! So my $800 serger is sitting in my garage and it is totally jammed. The needles won't move, the knobs won't turn!!!! I serisously messed it up, but it ended up working out because I am really happier with my results now that I don't use it! I didn't realize that my sewing machine could do that stitch and that was my main reason for wanting it. I can't stand to see the raw edges on the inside of the garment.

Looks like the Toledo area Hancock Fabrics meet will be on Monday,
August 20th. One member will not be able to make that date, so I will try to set up a different meet for you, I am sorry! :sad1:

Dena

Had to search this out for the date, just bumping to make it easier to find next time, lol!

It seems simple, doesn't it. and that's probably just what I'll do for dd ( my mom made me a flapper dress (when I was like 9) out of a fringed skirt, she just added straps- how easy is that!!) But of course I want something w/ a plunging neckline and drop waist..I may settle for the more standard version cause I don't forsee me dropping 20 pounds before then, but as someone mentioned w/ everything on my plate, outfits, costumes, trip planning and work- who has time to eat. (and theres still that darned afghan!!)

I've found an out of print Vogue zoot suit pattern on The-site-that-must-not-be-named (you see, that was a harry potter referrence) and I'm not making a jacket so that you can see the gun holsters. DH is set on getting a white out contact for and putting a scar over one eye (he's such the drama queen!) DS9 is having no part of being a newsie or a gangster. I also found some pinstriped suiting fabric on "that' site but I forgot about, thanks for reminding me, the auction prob. ended and I'll have to look for more. Add it to the list!

I am probably going to use the apron top/dress for either the AK (ala Glorib-thanks for the idea) or for Epcot and a twirl top and capri's or pants for the other. HMMM... decisions, decisions.

OK, I think I am finally going to attempt a skirt for my DD. I found some cute 4H Fair type fabric for the fair next week. I would like to do a twirl type skirt with stripes from the top to bottom. Could someone please help me or point me in the right direction? I know there were some general directions many posts ago, and I can't find them! I have a whole bucket of fabric that I have been collecting since the beginning of this thread, but have been too busy and chicken to start cutting into it...:rotfl: I have very high hopes of going to WDW in early Dec with my SIL and BIL. I am keeping my fingers crossed and figure I need to get learning and practicing in case we do get to go, so I can get all my customs done in time!!! TIA for your help.

Fabric dot com had some computer issues and now they're taking an extra15% off. The code is SORRY. It even applies to sale fabric. There aren't any Disney fabrics but there is a nice selection of Christmas,Halloween, dots, etc.
Lord knows I don't need anymore fabric but it might help some of you!

I thought this might be fun....

I'm wondering what kind of costumes people are making their kids for Halloween? A lot of people think it is just too early to start thinking about Halloween but if you are like me and want to make them, it's probably time to start getting some ideas.

My DS wants to be Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I am going to attempt him the pinstripe suit w/the weird collar -- he is soooo excited! I'm not sure what I am going to do for DD. My son keeps saying that she could be Sally (from the movie also) but I just don't know how well she will react to it (she'll be almost 3). She loves the movie but I would have to paint her face up and spray her hair red.

She saw the picture while I was typing and says that's what she wants to be but we'll see.

So anybody else already thinking about Halloween?

Here's my latest creation. At first, neither DD wanted it because they didn't like the Pooh fabric. But DD3 decided she would wear it. The top is one I bought and added the Pooh iron-on.

And here's the twirling pic. She kept twirling too fast, so it's a bit blurry.

I called my Mom today to tell her about the smocking plates I found and to my surprise . . . guess who knows how to smock. Yeppers, my Mamma! I am so excited because she is going to teach me. We have seven months to WDW, seven park days and nine "disney" plates. I am so excited!!! I think if I can do one a month. I will have enough time to have a smocked creation for each day. Turns out it was buy one plate get one free. So, got five free plates!!! My favorite is the Wizard of Oz plate. I want to insert it onto the Dorothy costume.

My DD3 is really into costumes but the babes will be about 19 months in March. She will look adorable in her fancy smocked dresses. I am so excited.

I made a nemo sundress last night. I am planning on listing it. I had my DD try it on and she said thanks for making me a Nemo costume. I can wear it on the seashell ride. Oh no! I will have to make another one. I am going to do bows to go with because it is pretty simple.

I bought some white flip flops too. I think I will try and match the bows and shoes. I will photograph it later today.

This is exactly what I want to try to make. Can someone please help me make a skirt like this. Are the stripes wider at the bottom? Any general measurements? Please help me!
