Hi everyone,

I am new to the Disign boards. I have been absolutely enchanted by all of the creativity and gorgeous outfits I have seen posted. I would love to try my hand at some but I am not sure where to begin  It doesn't help that I haven't the slightest idea on how to operate a sewing machine :lmao:

I really would like to try to make these Minnie inspired shoes

http://s204.photobucket.com/albums/...s n socks/?action=view&current=Picture060.jpg and I have been searching the boards for directions on how to make them but I have been unsuccesful so far :confused3

I would be so greatful for any help. :yay:

I have made a few and I just use paints that can be used on leather. forgot the name brand and I free hand paint. also ribbon is used for laces!

Oh Man! I made a back-to-school outfit for my dd7 with that school fabric too! Don't you love it? Although, I used the red fireworks fabric they have at wal-mart to coord. I made knee pants to go with. My plan is to take a panel or 2 off the school fabric and put onto jeans just like you did for October weather.

Okay, I'd like some suggestions on what to do with the capris for this outfit. They're pink denim. I have lots of the rainbow ribbon left, some of the pink bias tape, and some of the Cuties fabric left over. I don't really want to buy anything else, so what do you think I could do to "jazz" them up? I've got a few ideas, I just want to see if you guys think of something I haven't thought of.

cutiesfront.jpg

How about the cuties fabric on the cuff trimmed where the hem is with the pink bias tape? Or put the cuties fabric on the cuff, then open out the bias tape, finish the edges, ruffle the tape, then attach it to the hem.

I love the fabric and, of course, the outfit. When I saw it, I put that and the coordinating bolts in my buggy to make a back to school for my niece. Then I remembered all of the schools-private and public-wear uniforms. :sad1
Oh well, I'm starting the stripwork skirts for both of my nieces for Christmas. Then I'll make them Christmas themed overalls too.

I love the back to school outfit! That's awesome. Unfortunately, I can't do something like that for DD, too bad I wasn't into the sewing as much then as I have gotten now. I'm still trying to think of something though. ;) Probably have to do something subtle for the boys.

I love the new outfits. My mom has made Emily back to school dresses each year of preschool. But, this year, she starts Kindergarten and will be going to a private school with uniforms. But, she does get to wear what she wants on Fridays (with some restrictions), so I think that I'll still have her make something.

And, as for the first outfit, have you thought about putting some kind of trim (ribbon, rick-rack, etc) on the pants right about the seam by the ruffle. My mom makes capri outfits and she usually uses a trim right there and I think that it makes it look less like PJs. Just a thought.

Ok, I've made serious progress on my Donald overalls. I'm thinking I'll add "DONALD" to the back along with blue polkadot pockets? I'm not sure, but I do know that it will be a while before I attempt another pair of overalls!! And I have two more to make before December!! I had to do most of it by hand since my machine gave me fits. The hardest part was stitching down the "applique". It's actually an embroidered scrapbook sticker and it was a HUGE pain (literally!) to stitch down by hand.

Any idea what this could be? I put in a heavy duty needle but everytime I tried to sew, the thread would skip. Make sense? It just wouldn't sew an even seam, then it would come unthreaded. Any tips would be appreciated!

And here are some bows that I've made for a friend. She gets her ribbon from ribbonspot.com and it's really nice quality stuff. I've become pretty handy with the bows and I'm loving it!! The Ariel one is for dd2 to wear with her Sebastian/Flounder pillowcase dress.

Here's a halter dress that dd2 had in her drawer. All I added was the gingham minnie and green bow. I love this! I used an old-fashioned method of appliquing which involves a dryer sheet! This was stitched on by hand, this was done before I learned how to use my machine.
MinnieDenimHalter.jpg

Minniedenimhalter2.jpg

And lastly is a denim skirt and pillowcase top that I made for dd8. But here's the bummer, the top is too small and the skirt is too big :sad2: I made these while she was at her Granny's and thought I would surprise her when she got home. I guess I've learned my lesson about measuring! Don't know what to do now! I guess dd2 can wear the "dress" and I can save the skirt for dd8 to grow into. I have some of the material left over so I can make her a bigger top to grow into along with the skirt. The "appliques" are just on w/Heat'n'Bond but not stitched. I'm not fooling with denim stitching for quite a while!

I really like the Donald overalls. You don't see much with Donald on it anymore!:thumbsup2

Ugh, I am not organized at all. I sew in the dining room and throw everything into a drawer in our china cabinet. I have a stack of leftover fabric, a stack of patterns and a stack of other stuff (fusing and interfacing, etc). Then everything else is an old Dillards bag. When I am looking for something I have to dump the whole bag out. I saw a really nice organizer at JoAnn's. It has two plastic cases inside and lots of pockets and it is deep. It has a handle and a shoulder strap (I guess for sewing on the go). It is $34 so I am waiting for it go on sale or to use a coupon. The problem is whenever I get a coupon I use it on fabric, LOL!

They also had a matching box for organizing patterns. And a large rolling storage container (looks like the scrapbook organizers). That might work for you because you could put everything in it and roll it out when you can sew and roll it back to the laundry room when you are done. Anyway, good luck organizing, that's always my biggest challenge too!
I use a 4 drawer wheeled organizer for my notions and other small essentials. I have my fabric in ziploc bags, labeled, then the ziploc bags are inside of a big Rubbermaid container. We just moved and I haven't sewn in this house yet, but I'm either going to share the office with DH or I'll sew in the dining room. I can wheel the cart with me.

Oh, and my really sharp scissors and rotary cutter are in a small Rubbermaid container and way out of reach of my kiddos.

My decorator fabric is on rolls and they're stored in long plastic bags and in the closet. I don't keep those around too long, though.

Ok here is my newest Flip FLops!
Cinderella and Mickey Arn't they cute!!!!!

They're both really cute! That reminds me I need to go buy uniforms!

Could someone direct me to instructions for making bottlecap necklaces? How do you attach the bottlecap to the ribbon or chain?

Oh, and here is a pillowcase dress made of a vintage snow white sheet set. I made one for each of my 4 girls. They all have snow white doing different things with the 7 dwarfs. Here is image of the front and back.

I love the vintage material. It is very cute. I thought about using a sheet set too to get what I want, but havent really looked lately. This outfit should get a lot of comments in the park!

New Fabric-

My DD's and I had to get out of the house today so Daddy could do homework. (He is in grad school.) We went to JoAnne's and Hancock Fabrics today. I hit the Simplicity patterns. We bought all the princess patterns. I fugured for $1.99 it was worth it.

My plan is to make the Sleeping Beauty dress where the faries are fighting. It will be pink and blue. We are surprising the girls with WDW on Christmas morning. They are going to get a clue box and the dress will be the big clue.

We found some really cute fabric. They had a black Mickey disco-ish fabric at Hancocks. At JoAnne's we got a lot of halloween fabric. DD wants a halloween dancing dress. Too funny. Her confidence is amazing. I will take some photos later tonight of the new Disney stuff.

Sewing/ Craft Rooms-

I know I have mentioned it before. I am an artist and I do have my own Art Studio in my home. The Art room is a favorite in the house. Before I had children I taught art. Our den was a place for me to do my lesson plans and my personal crafting. This spring I re-did the room to better reflect my needs with my buisness. It is a mess right now my Dh promised to help me tonight. I will take pics and post them. I do not have a huge space but it is heaven to me.

Tinker Bell dress-

Here are the pics of the dress on my DD. I has a good twirl factor.

Love the Tinkerbell dress. Your dd looks adorable in it.

Castle Creations - Love the Back to School dress. Just can't figure out how to multi quote. I was thinking about doing something similar for my DD who will be starting Kindergarten, but we'll see if I get to it before school starts.

Thanks she loves it! I think I have spent more money at the fabric store than I do on Gymboree! Oh well, we are having fun and she will only want these dresses for so long.

She starts preschool in the fall and I am already stressing about what outfit to put her in! It is an important day. My DH thinks I am crazy! Just wait until she starts kindergarten!
