Ok, here is my first attempt at a twirl skirt of any kind. This took me close to 10 hours to make--spanning over a few days. I am a visual learner and hate reading through directions. A special thanks to LadyRob who helped me through some scary moments! It's not Disney but Halloween is just around the corner and our Disney trip is still over a year away :sad2:

When DD saw it she said "is that mine" and so I just said "I don't know do you like it?"

Then she said "I love it, it's mine" and she tried to grab it and I said will you try it on and let me take a picture. She said yes.

THen she said she wouldn't take it off. I was going to pack it for our trip coming up. So she wore it out to dinner and then latter when she was getting her bath she asked me if it really was hers or was it for her cousin. :confused3 And she asked me what size it was. I told it is was really hers and it was a size six.

I thought it was so cute that she liked it so much she was worried about me giving it to her cousin. I am making a second one in size 3 to either sell or give to her cousin.

A couple of questions for you if you don't mind... I just cut this pattern out and was wondering where you cut the pattern at the shoulder to switch fabrics? Also, where did you find you circle mickey fabric? I would love to find some of this!

CUTE!! Looks like she LOVES it!!

Say, does anyone know how (or where free instructions are) to make woven/braided headbands?
like this:

I did a search and can only find this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Make-BRAIDED-Wo...-Hairbows_W0QQitemZ190128502796QQcmdZViewItem

http://www.youcanmakethis.com/products/BowsNBling/BraidedRibbons.htm

There were no free directions that I can find but with all the helpful people here, if there are some, they'll post it.

Edited again-here's something called military braiding that looks like your picture. I think that if you made this braid, you could just glue it to a headband.Instead of stapling, use E600 and just wrap the headband in a matching ribbon prior to gluing the braid

I bought the circle Mickey fabric at JoAnn's.

I cut the shoulder at the top. I left a little extra fabric at the top so there would be enough for a seam allowance. Do you have the pattern? I am going to cut it out again in another fabric and I can post some pictures in a little while. I have to wait til DH gets home because I don't know how to get the pictures off the camera but if you wait I can post a picture.

OMG, OMG... OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is hysterical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To top it off, my DS5 has been looking over my thread over the past few weeks that I have been in this thread... he has been watching me make things for my DD7 and picked out a Surfer Mickey he'd like me to applique for him. Well, now that he's seen the jumpsuit, she said, "ya, ya... THAT'S what I want!!!" But he is serious!!! LOL

You are too funny! I truly appreciate the yellow Crocs as well!

I just don't see what's so funny about this studly outfit!! :rotfl2: I'll let you know when I list them on ebay so you can buy it for your DS! I was thinking of a BIN of $400, though. These are one of a kind creations, after all! :snooty:

You know, for some reason, my DH didn't seem to appreciate me posting that picture on the board! Go figure...

Thanks! I'll try the military braid and see if that looks right! :thumbsup2

I did not say I was going to post it but here is the one I made. I am very happy with the way it turned out.

I love the Alice dress. You did a wonderful job on it.

I haven't been on the board for the last few days because I have been busily sewing!! I had been looking for a pattern to make matching father/son boutique outfits. When my sister posted the pattern for the men's jumpsuit, I knew I had found the perfect matching outfits! I disneyed them up , added some yellow crocs, and ta-da!!! As you can see, DH and DS LOVE their new outfits!!

Too funny!!!!

Good Luck!! It is such a memorable experience and a great weekend at WDW!

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm thinking of making it a solo weekend. This way I can really enjoy it and the DIS WISH team, etc. We'll see. I need to hit the pavement though.

This is very helpful! If any experienced sewers could post a picture or two of maybe a "tricky" step in a pattern--it would be invaluable to us rookies! Thanks again!

I loved the instruction photos, too. I think this is a great idea. However, I think we need to be a bit more specific as to what is tricky. For example, I'm still not comfortable putting in a zipper. I'd love to see someone post pics putting one of those in.

Very cute!! Nice job. I started a boys surfing Mickey outfit, but I think a tulle twirl skirt will be on tap for after that.

Dh was walking past the computer as I was seeing this. He's used to me staring at outfits online for ideas, tips, etc, so when he saw that on the screen he says at the top of his lungs "OH H#*L NO !!!!" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I almost fell over laughing :rotfl2: :rotfl2: He thought we had officially gone over the deep end :lmao: :lmao:

I was thinking that when I was laughing at the picture. I think I said to myself, my husband would kill me if I did that: hers must have a great sense of humor!

Zippers?!? :scared1: I think it will be a while before I am ready to tackle them, but I would like to see pictures on how to do it!

:rotfl: :rotfl: You done made me pee my pants!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

I forgot to multi-quote, so I'll try to remember all I wanted to say... PLUS add pics of what I made today!!!!! :woohoo:
Here is a pic of the cinderella dresses I made my girls.
I am having a problem with the ties on the one dress not staying tight and the top falling to show to much chest. Any advice?

Your dresses are very cute! I have that same fabric for dd6 and I'm working on a plan for a dress for CRT, but don't know what yet. I made a pillowcase top for her and used the ribbon method but the ribbons kept falling out, so I got the front and back gathered where I liked it and stitched the ends so the ribbon wouldn't fall out. If it's satin ribbon, you might want to consider switching to something less slippery. Not sure if that helped, but thought I'd try.

Blake - nice twirl skirt, my first one is below!

Whoever posted the Fall Trends link... :thanks:

Very nice Alice dress!

And, beautiful wedding pics especially the kiddos!

Now for my big unveiling..... I made a tulle twirly skirt!!!!!!! I'm so psyched! I can't believe how easy it was, well the tulle jerked me around for a minute, but I showed it who was boss!!!! What kind of top do you guys think would look good with it? And what fabric? Seriously, I'm stumped here!

DSC00023-1.jpg

This one looks a little faded, I don't know what's up with my camera?

Now, before you say "oh my, she posted a pic that almost shows her dds bum" She did have shorts on, so it didn't come up that far!
DSC00019-1.jpg

Also, not Disney, but I made this for ebay maybe. We're no longer Titans fans, and I had this fabric just lying around and thought I'd do something to replenish the funds that I've depleted to feed by new obsession!! Do you all think it's ebay worthy?

Tell him that we went over the deep end a long time ago!!!!!!!

Heather you need help!!!! :rotfl:

Ok, I just felt like taking up a whole page with my posts! Sorry...

I forgot that I wanted to show you guys this. Wickedmom75 on the Creative DISign board made this design for me when I sent her pics of the Elvis fabric that I bought. I'm thinking of making ribbon t's with this ironed on, then a skirt or skorts made with the Elvis, yellow and lt.blue. Do you guys think this graphic is too busy? I was thinking of putting it on a yellow shirt to match the yellow fabric I bought to match the Elvis. Any ideas (stripwork jumper? patchwork? anything?)

Elvis fabric I bought.

Oh yeah, these outfits are for the girls to wear to breakfast at Ohana on our last morning.

I tried resizing the images, but for some reason it didn't work. Sorry!

Hi all I don't mean to butt in on this interesting thread you've got going but before I joined (I mean I JUST joined) I was following this thread because I am a sewer...my DD 12 loves to sew her own clothes and I also sew...any pictures or ideas for the tween set???

Well here it is. It took me a couple of days because I have been so busy but I am pretty happy with Emma's JoJo.. I plan to make some purple capris to go with it and when my ribbon comes (hopefully tomorrow) I will make some bows.. Now my 6 year old wants a JoJo outfit! If I keep this up we will have way to many outfits to bring on the trip! Does this mean I have a reason to plan another trip soon? :lmao:

JoJo1.jpg

EEEK! I need to fix that left side!!!! It is way lower than the right!!! Can you tell I am a rookie??!!!

Oh my Jen, that Jojo is adorable!!!!! I love the fabrics you used, very bright and fun. The Mickey buttons are a perfect touch! Did you do the applique yourself?

Hi and welcome!!!!!! She might like some of the skirts or embellished jeans. On the very first page of this thread is a link to our gallery. Let her look through there and see if she sees anything she likes. Then let us know and we'll get her started in the right direction.

:welcome:
