Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 2

I am thinking about "winging" a stripwork dress. Are the strips rectangles or are they shorter in width at the waist and wider at the hem? It is hard to tell from the finished product pictures because of the gathering...

Darn! Sorry bout that. I guess I just got excited that it was NOT the usual pattern you see for Ariel...I should have looked a bit closer. You would think Disney would put that exact pattern out. Hope your able to find what your looking for. :)

No Disney won't publish that dress pattern until next spring AFTER I need it. At least that how these things usually go for me....we want something, we hunt all over the world (literally sometimes since DH travels) and give up, find a substitute, and within a short time poof, there it is, everywhere you look.

I do thank you though!

OK...DH just walked in from work and I showed him your pics...I told him "See this...look what other men are willing to do for their wives! If you loved me you'd do whatever it took to make me happy". Hey, when all else is lost, guilt trips usually work. My last resort is tears. You've got a good man there! Thanks for sharing the pics...you guys all look very cool!

Well, what was his response? Did he run back out the door to get a wig? I think if I told my DH that's a sure fire way.....well, let's just say he'd have a lot of questions to answer at work on why he wasn't clean shaven, lol.

He laughed, but he kinda looked receptive. Maybe he's thinking Hmmm...wig=guaranteed nookie...maybe not such a bad idea after all! :rotfl: I'm gonna have to work on him, but I think he may just come around.

Ok, I've been watching and haven't seen her....oh NANA....where are you? Come out come out whereever you are! Did she leave because her post got chopped by a mod?????
No, she didn't leave. She's still around, but she's been sewing like crazy. She's pretty new to the DIS, and called me all stressed out that she had gotten an "infraction". She didn't realize any of the rules, and was a little confused.

Anyway, I'll see if she knows what patterns she used.

There's a kids costume pattern from Simplicity that has a dress that is kind of similar - has a square neckline (easy enough to round out) but not the poofy upper sleeve part - but it's closer than some! Simplicity 3725 (the pink 'formal' dress)

Also, Butterick 4320 - pink dress is kind of similar.

Someone said something about looking for a flapper dress pattern - I found pastpatterns.com and they had some flapper styles
Also, search for Simplicity 5400 - it's out of print, but there are some out there still. (think the movie Chicago - that's the kind of stuff this one has)

Here is a picture of my dd wearing the shirt I made. She is wearing it with a black skirt but I am making her black capries which I think will look better since the skirt has ruffles too and I think it is too much. What do you think?

I think I'd prefer the capris, but the shirt looks *great*! And your daughter is a sweetie. :) Does she love it?

That's even more cute on! I think capri pants would look nice with it! (maybe with a thin pink piping on the bottom?)

I started reading this thread when it first started and was only 5 pages. I immediately went to ebay and have purchased unique items from there and found an IRL friend who sews and I paid her to make a few things as well. Time has passed and I've peeked on the thread ocassionally and finally decided to bite the bullet and make something myself! So below is the first outfit I've ever sewn. Though it is not Disney, I have built up quite the Disney fabric stash and do have plans for how it will be used.

So a great big thank you goes out to all of you for advice I've read and pictures I've seen as you all have inspired me  I'm currently on page 122 of this thread and desperately trying to catch up to the end, lol.

For anyone interested, the corset, ribbon top was made from directions I bought on youcanmakethis.com (Dainty Designs is the creator) and the shorts are Simplicity pattern 3743.

This is very cute!! See how easy it is? Your daughter will have more clothes then you know what to do with!

I want to make DD these shoes to go with her Pirate costume.

I found the shoes and the ribbon, but I don't know what kind of paint to use. I bought some "dimensional" fabric paint that comes on a tube you squeeze out, but I think I need more "precision". Any suggestions on what type of paint to use? Do you think she used a brush to put it on?

Thanks! :flower3:

What about a stamper? You paint on the stamp, then press it to the fabric.

Here is my 2nd attempt at applique:

Arielapplique2.jpg

As you can see, poor Ariel has no face. :scared1: (the marks you see are just where I was goofing around with a pencil, figuring out the placement of stuff) I don't know how to hand embroider, I know I couldn't do it on the machine, so I'm stuck as to what to do for a face! I can draw, so I was thinking maybe fabric markers. I've never used them before, are they more like paint, or will it look like permanent marker? Help me out, ladies! :flower3:

Have you ever done machin stippling? It's awkward. But easy. Some machines, you drop the feed dog on the machine (the teeth), on mine, I have a plate I put over the feed dog. It keeps the fabric from moving. Then there is a foot that you use. It's got a small clear peice that the needle fits through. Then you can freehand machine stitch. I tend to "drive" too fast, so I'm sloppy. But if you use small stitches and go slow, this might be what you need to try.

Great job!!! Your daughter is precious.

Where did you find the shoes? My DD would love these!

Ok, I've made serious progress on my Donald overalls. I'm thinking I'll add "DONALD" to the back along with blue polkadot pockets? I'm not sure, but I do know that it will be a while before I attempt another pair of overalls!! And I have two more to make before December!! I had to do most of it by hand since my machine gave me fits. The hardest part was stitching down the "applique". It's actually an embroidered scrapbook sticker and it was a HUGE pain (literally!) to stitch down by hand.

Any idea what this could be? I put in a heavy duty needle but everytime I tried to sew, the thread would skip. Make sense? It just wouldn't sew an even seam, then it would come unthreaded. Any tips would be appreciated!

And here are some bows that I've made for a friend. She gets her ribbon from ribbonspot.com and it's really nice quality stuff. I've become pretty handy with the bows and I'm loving it!! The Ariel one is for dd2 to wear with her Sebastian/Flounder pillowcase dress.

Here's a halter dress that dd2 had in her drawer. All I added was the gingham minnie and green bow. I love this! I used an old-fashioned method of appliquing which involves a dryer sheet! This was stitched on by hand, this was done before I learned how to use my machine.

And lastly is a denim skirt and pillowcase top that I made for dd8. But here's the bummer, the top is too small and the skirt is too big :sad2: I made these while she was at her Granny's and thought I would surprise her when she got home. I guess I've learned my lesson about measuring! Don't know what to do now! I guess dd2 can wear the "dress" and I can save the skirt for dd8 to grow into. I have some of the material left over so I can make her a bigger top to grow into along with the skirt. The "appliques" are just on w/Heat'n'Bond but not stitched. I'm not fooling with denim stitching for quite a while!

Very cute, tnmom. I like the Donald overalls especially much. I feel for you on the sewing machine issues. Mine's giving me fits, too. No advice...just commisseration!

I think the skirt is cute, but capris might look even cuter especially if you add some pink like another poster suggested.

This is toooooo cute!!!!!

I think the bedroom would be the perfect spot---Don't Men Kow Anything?! I have my version of JS for the bedroom. We had a pirate party for DS1 1st b-day party and I bought him and daddy both JS wig/hats from the Disney Store. Every once in a while I can get DH to wear it to bed. SIGH! It looks especially good when he has not shaved in a while. I am looking for a pic from the party to upload, I will when I find one.

Your post and pics cracked me up!! I had the same thought when I saw that at the Disney store. I thought "maybe if I close my eyes"...... :rotfl:

Where did you find the shoes? My DD would love these!

At Walmart! They were $6. The black ones were actually in the boys' shoe section. I found some cute red/white striped ribbon at Hobby Lobby. If I can get the little skulls on there, I think they'll be cuter than these!

I think I am going to look for fine paint pens tomorrow. The squeezy paint definitely isn't going to work.

Your daughter looks adorable in cuties top! Can't wait to see the capris.
