I want to make DD these shoes to go with her Pirate costume.

I found the shoes and the ribbon, but I don't know what kind of paint to use. I bought some "dimensional" fabric paint that comes on a tube you squeeze out, but I think I need more "precision". Any suggestions on what type of paint to use? Do you think she used a brush to put it on?

Thanks! :flower3:

Not sure if you are looking for the dimensional look or not, but I bought paint markers in Walmart (in the stationery aisle) and they are called Painters. There are 5 different colored paint markers in the package and I think they were $7.99 or $8.99, there were 2 variations of color packages. I bought the leather type sneakers to use them on, but haven't gotten around to using them yet. Just thought I'd pass along the info in case this was along the lines of what you were looking for. Oh, they also come in fine point, medium point and broad point.

Check your craft store for paint pens. They look like a marker but are actually paint, way more control than using a brush! I just went and checked mine, they are made by Zig and are called "Painty".

Has anyone seen the new "Bon Voyage" line at Gymboree? Unfortunately, I think it's girls' clothing only, but the dresses are adorable. They are just begging to be customized for someone's Disney Cruise. They even have Captain's hats.

Not sure if this is a UK pattern or US pattern, but Simplicity 9902 has the dress for Ariel that you are looking for, you would just need to do the colors you want. Never worked with a UK pattern, so I really am not sure what the difference would be.

**Sorry, I meant to answer to THEPARSONS...that'll teach me to respond through my email instead of on the board. LOL!

Thanks for looking for it for me! Unfortunately 9902 is the wedding dress, not the pink party dress, and it's quite a bit different, at least for this barely-past-beginner sewer.....the bodice is probably close enough (it v's instead of scoops), but the skirt isn't....this one has the handkerchief type overlay, and the one I'm looking for has the swag thing (geez I hope you guys speak gibberish). This is actually the one I was thinking I could use for the top and sleeves, but then how do I do the skirt, because another pattern probably won't be easy to piece together with something else. I think what I need to do is find someone who can sew better than I can and have them walk me through it. I'll also have to resize this pattern because my daughters are at least a 10-12, this only goes to size 8.

Why doesn't Disney get the hint that "big" girls want Princess stuff too...we're running into nothing in the stores fitting them either (part of the reason I've taken up this notion that I can sew/applique them clothes from the fabrics we've found). And Belle, well finding fabric with just her is impossible (why isn't there a pouting smile thingy)

Thanks though, I really really appreciate any ideas ya'll can throw my way.....there has to be a way!

I'm officially addicted now. I made myself a shirt to wear to the Animal Kingdom.

Do you think I should add a Minnie Mouse ribbon to it? I don't know why, but I'm not in love with this one.

I warned you! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I think part of the problem is the dark shirt? I'm thinking the black in the skin print blends in and it just doesn't pop as much as the other. But I think it's still cute....and a MM ribbon never has hurt any outfit, :lmao:

I tried to tell DH that Jack looks better in our bedroom, but he's not buying it. :confused3 So I had to relegate him to the living room where I can close the doors and DH doesn't have to see him. :lmao: Guess what room I spend most of my time in now? LOL!

I think the bedroom would be the perfect spot---Don't Men Kow Anything?! I have my version of JS for the bedroom. We had a pirate party for DS1 1st b-day party and I bought him and daddy both JS wig/hats from the Disney Store. Every once in a while I can get DH to wear it to bed. SIGH! It looks especially good when he has not shaved in a while. I am looking for a pic from the party to upload, I will when I find one.

My mom ended up making my oldest DD an Ariel "dinner" dress and she ended up having to put together several different patterns to finally make the dress. But, it did turn out cute!!

Do you happen to know what patterns she used??? Thanks!

I'm slowly resigning myself to having to do this....and have decided I'll definitely be making the first try out of muslin, lol. The satiny fabric she wants is $10 a yard, no way am I cutting into that until I know what I'm doing!

How darling! What a GREAT idea for all those scraps!

I agree, I think this is just adorable! We've actually been buying 1/4 yards of fabrics that we "like" but that aren't something we want a whole outfit of with just this idea in mind. Been pulling out many of my old books and such from my quilting days and Judy Murrah has several on making vests and jackets out of scraps....I made several of these back then and I'm thinking I might try again. After all, January in Florida we'll need a jacket for the evenings right?

I started reading this thread when it first started and was only 5 pages. I immediately went to ebay and have purchased unique items from there and found an IRL friend who sews and I paid her to make a few things as well. Time has passed and I've peeked on the thread ocassionally and finally decided to bite the bullet and make something myself! So below is the first outfit I've ever sewn. Though it is not Disney, I have built up quite the Disney fabric stash and do have plans for how it will be used.

So a great big thank you goes out to all of you for advice I've read and pictures I've seen as you all have inspired me  I'm currently on page 122 of this thread and desperately trying to catch up to the end, lol.

For anyone interested, the corset, ribbon top was made from directions I bought on youcanmakethis.com (Dainty Designs is the creator) and the shorts are Simplicity pattern 3743.

Darn! Sorry bout that. I guess I just got excited that it was NOT the usual pattern you see for Ariel...I should have looked a bit closer. You would think Disney would put that exact pattern out. Hope your able to find what your looking for. :)

OMG...you have me just about on the floor! :rotfl: If only my DH would be that compliant! HeeeHeeeHeee!

I read your post out loud to my son. He looks a little embarassed, but he also laughed, so that's good. I have told him that one of the main things he needs to consider when chosing a girlfriend is what her parents are like. Because, I don't want to share my grandkids with just ANYONE! So, this could work out well, in another 8 years or so!

Ummm...SHARE grandkids.....hmmmm, never considered that. Ok, I guess I'll have to tell the girls another thing to look for in picking out a husband is that either his mom is a great lady that I can get along with or that she live far far far away so she never comes to see MY grandbabies, lol.

I can't tell you how much I look forward to the time when I can spoil a grandchild rotten, absolutely spoiled rotten....something I find myself having to restrain myself and not doing tooooooo much with the girls, lest they become brats that I don't want to spend 24/7 with, lol. Nah, just kidding....my girls turned out to be wonderful ladies despite me!

but need to make sure I have enough of the contrasting stripe to make a certain "twirly" style top I have recently run into a pattern for.

...t.

Hmmmm....a twirly shirt to go with a twirly skirt? I need to figure out something to go with all these skirts I want to make, can you please share the pattern maker/number or a link. Thanks!

It is wonderful! I think he will do anything to get some so works for me! I posted the pics above a few posts. Not bad if I do say so myself. HEHE

OK...DH just walked in from work and I showed him your pics...I told him "See this...look what other men are willing to do for their wives! If you loved me you'd do whatever it took to make me happy". Hey, when all else is lost, guilt trips usually work. My last resort is tears. You've got a good man there! Thanks for sharing the pics...you guys all look very cool!

I know that your original post was a while ago but do you know if walmart still carries these or if joann carries them, it is so hard for me to keep up with this thread....everyone is so crafty (which I am not) if anyone has any easy non sewing ideas for girls or boys I'd love them! I have a DD6 & DS2....thanks so much for your help!!

We were just at Michael's and Joann's this morning and I can't recall which place, but we definitely saw the Tink and the Donald ones.
