Kids desks

Can anyone refer me to a reasonably priced source for kids' desks.

The Pottery Barn has some very nice ones, but they are $700 and more plus shipping. IKEA has reasonably priced desks, but what they have in kids' sizes isn't that attractive.

Check out Pier One for kids. They have fairly decent prices on kids furniture.

Do you know anyone in your area that could build you a desk. I had this done last year for my daughter. I loved the potterybarn desks, but could not see paying over $700 for a desk, so I had somebody build one for me and I was able to design it myself and tell him the measurements I wanted/needed. It turned out much nicer than the pottery barn desks, plus I know it was hand crafted and really good wood was used.

We have a store called "The Bunk and Loft Factory" they make kids furniture to your specs.. much less than $700, in fact I'm guessing more like $200.. Very well made... We just bought a loft bed and bookcase from them.. If you have somewhere like that around you, you should look into it!!

I wouldn't buy a kid-sized desk. My 11-year old is already as big as I am. Plus you'll likely want to put a computer (or at least a laptop) on that desk eventually. I think you'll save money in the long run by going for a full-sized desk now.

We got a really nice desk and chair set at Aldis for DD. She is 10 and 5' tall and fits it fine although it says kids desk and chair set. It is light wood with white trim very nice...it was $49.99 but when we went back to get it, it was marked down to $29.99. It is much like the Restore line Target had (we bought her that table and 2 chair set for $100.00).

Have you looked at the unfinished furniture stores? That is where we found one for my daughter.

Since you live in PA, you might, if convenient, check out some of the Amish-owned furniture stores or family owned wood shops in PA and OH. We have bought beautiful handcrafted Amish furniture including desks for very reasonable prices and these are pieces that will become family heirlooms as the years go by.
