kids cups with lids - need help

Wow... just wow! I can't believe you would assume that based on my original post and frankly your assumption is very far from the truth. You make it sound like having a child with delays is a bad thing. :(

He's a spirited kid and has a tendancy to spill ALL things. That's it. Cups are supposed to stay on the table, but things happen. I also have a 2 year old in the house. He does go to preschool and does fine with his drinks there but I'm concerned with MY house. He does fine with sports bottles - we picked up several of the steel bottles at Old Navy last year but I prefer those to be water only...don't like the idea of cleaning milk out of the mouthpiece.

The kids are familiar with the Take N Toss cups. I'll check out the ones at Target and see if those will work. I'll also take another good look at the Tupperware too.
 My DD is 5 now and I still like to use cups that don't spill when I have one available. My favorite is her Klean Kanteen. It is very easy to clean in the dishwasher and the spout is all plastic with no stuff to get liquids trapped in and get all gross. It was kinda pricey but I had tried a few cheaper ones and didn't like them. I also like that it is made of stainless and tends to keep things cool without being bulky. There is a sippy type spout I use when we take trips too. http://www.kleankanteen.com/
I plan on getting some tupperware cups soon because I am tired of replacing the cheapo cups I keep buying. At least with tupperware I know it is going to last. My mom still has some from when I was a kid.

Wow, as a mom of a 4.5 year old girl thankfully without special needs, we also have a need for a travel cup. I don't know about you but a regular cup doesn't always work in our life.
For the car, trips to the museum, zoo, WDW, and honestly just around the house sometimes we use the Nalgene sport bottles

Not babyish and it looks like the one that mom and dad use as well.

Don't use the disposable ones... Please..

I think it is horrible that they exist as it is.

There are other options that are less destructive to the environment.:sad2:

That's what I'm trying to avoid! ;) I like the idea of them for travel (and we always wash them and leave them in our Disney recycle bin), but long term, I'm afraid I'll spend more due to wear and tear.

Like I said, I've got several of the reusable, steel water bottles, but I am looking for something that we can use for juice and milk. I've found a couple other options, but one of them involved Walmart, and for personal reasons, I choose not to shop there.

Just wanted to clarify that you don't have to "dispose" of the take n toss cups. They are dishwasher safe and very durable. We have had the same set of cups for over three years and counting.

OP, I know Playskool or one of the other brands had the sport type cups with the insulation that may be a cool option. We had a ton of these for my youngest and still used them in the car up until she was 6. Then we got some of the Thermos ones on great clearance from Target. She can't drink regular milk so that was never a real issue but I did not want anything else spilled in my car. The backseat is colorful enough with melted crayons from her being sent home crayons from school and them being forgotten about until hours later.

I used the Tupperware Impressions Tumblers. They are a regular cup, but have a lid you can use w/a straw hole. When a straw isn't in they are sealed and pretty much don't leak.

They are pricy but I bought a set 8 years ago w/my oldest and they still work great, 3 kids later. I still use them w/the list when we do movie night and every day otherwise.

Another vote for Tupperware Impressions. :thumbsup2 I have them for the kids and use them myself, we've had ours 4-5 years now. We only drink water here and the cups tend to get carried around the house, used near computers, electronics, etc and just knowing the lids are on and they are spill resistant (well dropped off a table they might leak a little ;) ) makes me not stress so much about small mishaps.

thermos funtainers are awesome for the parks and outings. Stuff stays cold forever and you can get them at Target, etc. :thumbsup2

Lots of plain designs and characters, too. My kids love these.

I was just going to mention them.

My kids use them for school. It is a straw & the lid closes shut & their drinks are still cold when they come home from school.

My dd also uses the thermos soup container & says her soup is still warm at lunch time.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was accusing :)
I completely understand about the steel tumblers... Good luck finding something to work for your wee ones.

We've gone that route with our Disney leftovers... my thing is that they are a thinner plastic and sometimes get squished. We don't have a dishwasher either... I'm the dishwasher... :sad2: But IKWYM. ;)

I didn't see the Impressions when I was browsing yesterday... I'll dig a little deeper.

I understood ya! ;) We are big into recycling and reusing as much as we can. :hippie:

Most likely because they aren't in the kids cup area but as part of a set (can order separately).

11oz is the "kids" size, 16 oz (not on the Tup site at the moment) is the adults size.
You can purchase them on Amazon and Ebay as well. Just make sure to look for the ones with the straw hole because there are some with lids that are "flat seals" which means no straw hole.

I highly reccomend the Thermos Funtainers. We take them everywhere. They are also easy to clean.

I highly recommend Turvis Tumbler, you can get 2 different kinds of lids for them and they come in a wide range of sizes. We have had turvis tumblers for years. It is all we use.

They are good for hot or cold beverages and they do not sweat. We love them.

We really like these http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Autos...1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1300641654&sr=8-1

They come in a set of two for $10, or you can buy one for $6. You push the button to drink and as soon as you release the button, it automatically seals. If they drop it, it seals on the way to the ground. If they tip it over, the button isn't depressed anymore, so it won't leak. My 4 year old loves her cups. They are great for travel.

They are top rack dishwasher safe. I press the button while running water through the lid for a few seconds and toss them into the dishwasher. The only downside is that they are not double walled, so they will sweat.

They just came out with these that are double wall insulated stainless steel, but they are more expensive. http://www.amazon.com/Contigo-Autos...QXVW/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1300641845&sr=8-8 They are $18 each, but are currently part of a buy 3 get the 4th free sale.

I use the larger version of the stainless steel cup all the time. They are awesome travel mugs :-)

There is a post on the disABILITIES community board about sippy cups for older kids and I recommended the trekkers. They liked them so much, they ordered more.

I love that they don't have any straws to try and get clean.

I'll add another plug for the tupperware impressions cups. I've had mine for 18 years now and they still look and work great. I still use the lids quite a bit for times when I don't want to worry about spills or when I am outside and don't want "stuff" getting into my drink.

Yes, tupperware is expensive. However, it's guaranteed for life. I've gotten replacement parts for free for my grandma's tupperware. She died in 1976.

I don't know if they still have them, but we use the take and toss cups from Target with the Disney characters, and I will tell you that you don't have to throw them away after one use. They do fine in the dishwasher (top shelf). The reason I don't know if they still have them is because DD just turned five and she still uses the ones from a couple of Disney princess packages we bought when she was 2. The design fades off a little in parts after a while, but they are still usable. I don't know if you eat out at restaurants much, but some of them use some of the good thicker cups and we bring those home and throw them in the dishwasher and use them all the time too- On the Border ones hold up a long time! We just buy regularly bendy straws for use with them.

Like OP's son, DD is spirited. She can drink out of a regular cup without spilling, but she will inevitably knock it over from where ever she set it or forget she is holding it in her lap and turn it upside down or let it fall, etc. and we wind up with V-8 etc. on the carpet. She can only use regular cups at the table or in the kitchen. If she goes to another part of the house, she must have a cup with a lid and a straw- that's the rule at our house.

As far as her pre-school and now pre-K. Neither of them use cups without lids, expect occasionally for water. They stick to juice or other boxes and bags that you just stick straws into.

I think about that age the boys started just using Tervis Tumblers - a smaller version of their Dad's. (They have two different lid styles.) We still use them, but they like the straws when we are outside and such (no lids usually in the kitchen).

For their lunch and trips we use a Thermos brand thermos with a flip top lid. (I think these just protect the straw a bit better from germs and they are spill proff when the lid is closed.) These also make sure drinks stay cold.

We are a big H2O drinking family, so a resuable water bottle with a sport lid is usually around too.

We love Tervis Tumblers for adults and kids! In the summer I like to take a glass of water, but don't want to spill it in the car so I have a sippy cup too. :lmao: Also great for watching movies. Couldn't tell you how many times I had a drink on the end table and accidentally knocked over a regular drink and made a giant mess. Tervis is also great for the pool. They are micro and dishwasher safe.

They are stocked at Bed Bath and Beyond. Don't forget to use your coupons.
