My neice will only be 9 when we go on our cruise next year while everyone else will be in the 10-12 age group. Will they allow her move up since she is so close to being 10? BTW, her birthday is in July and our cruise will be in May- 3 months until she turns 10 officially.

Thanks!

The "official" rule is they have to be within a month of their birthday, but I have heard here on the DIS that they've made several exceptions to that rule....but it's at the discretion of the counsellors based on how many kids in each group (they have to maintain staffing numbers.)

I've also heard that if a child wants to move, they cannot move back.

I have not had personal experience doing any of this (I will in December when ds is three weeks away from turning 8) but it's just all what I've gleaned from other DIS'ers.

Thank you! I hope they let her move up. She will be so disappointed and so will the others.

They will move you up, but after you go up you have to stay there you cannot go up and down.

Enjoy

On my daughter's first cruise she was 13 -- one month shy of 14 actually. She was not comfortable in the teen club. We went to the Oceaneers Club the next day and they let her sign in so that she would be more comfortable. They were great about it -- and she had a wonderful time.

Talk to the counselors. They will work with you. The main issue is that you have to decide where she will be and she has to stay there...no flip floping for security reasons.

Remember the CMs want your DD to have a Magical or Wonderful experience just as much as you do.

I have one daughter that just turned 9 and the other 10. So they were originally in different groups. Surprisingly my 10 year old had problems being seperated from her sister with kids she didn't know. She hated going to the kids clubs...I finally found out why and talked to the counselors about it.

The rule they gave me was that a kid can move down into the younger age group...so my oldest was able to move down into the 8-9 but they wouldn't let my 9 year old move up to the 10-12's...they said you can move up if your close to the lower age group but you can not move up to the older age group. This just happened on the May 8th cruise.

I also was told that my son couldn't move up but that my middle could move down to be with younger. Also before your child is allowed to move into a another group the counselors will tell you to let him/her try out the group to which he/she should be in. If your child is still unhappy then they will move your child. Be diligent -- and remember that the squeaky wheel..... HTH

My DS was within a month of turning 10 when we cruised. They said that he could be in the 10-12 on a trial basis and if that didn't work then he could move back down. I don't think he could have flip-flopped on a daily basis, but they were flexible. My DD was 6 (almost 7) and they said that she could move down if she wanted to because we had a 4 yo cousin with us. Of course my DS did not want to so that was OK.
