Kids clubs and bathroom?

I hope this does not seem like a weird question. Planning our first cruise.
At home I always accompany my children to a restroom if we are out. What are the bathrooms like on the Dream in the kids club? Do I need to be concerned an older boy could follow my DD in to the girls restroom? I am sure I am overthinking this but interested in some honest feedback. Thanks

Not weird at all, we are all just concerned parents. I'm interested in the answer to this too.

Well, the bathrooms on the Wonder are open access to all the kids in the club. I don't recall there being an actual door going in to either restroom. The toilets were low to the ground and the doors were low as well...I am guessing so the kids' club workers can check on kiddos that have been in there a while.

I cannot remember the ages of the kids clubs, but technically, a boy could follow her in to the restroom. No one takes the kids to the bathroom...which is why they require kids to be potty trained. They do not help the kids in the toilet nor do they monitor the restrooms.

My 4 year old is potty trained, but no one would be standing outside the stall monitoring her?

My DD was 4 and DCL assured me that no one would be monitoring or helping her (including a #2)...being "toilet trained" is not the same as "not in diapers". It was the same way at her preschool. She was on her own.

When my dd was 6 yrs old we were on the Wonder. I went to check her out of the club. They let me in the club to get her, just before we reached the exit she went running back and went into the restrooms. I knew she was just going in there because she didn't want to leave the club. Before I could get close to the bathroom entrance, several CMs appeared and blocked me from entering the bathroom. I told them that I was just getting my dd, but I wasn't allowed in. They had a CM stationed right by the door, who went and got her. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

When was that? In 2015 (on the Wonder) parents were NOT allowed in to the club (beyond the check in gates) during closed programming. There was also no one monitoring the restrooms.

My son had a bad incident in the toilet. He was 6 and went in on Pirate night and couldn't get his costume back on. We went to pick him up and they couldn't find him and said he was in the bathroom. My husband waited 10 minutes and again asked about my son. They wouldn't let my husband go into the bathroom to look for him so finally a cast member went and found him. He had been in there for over 40 minutes crying.
I don't completely blame Disney because at 6 my son should have advocated for help but he was too embarrassed. Disney was great and called our room to check on him and our feedback was that there needs to be some monitoring of kids in the bathroom because some kids are even younger. They also extended the OBB offer for a week after the cruise so we had more time to think about another cruise because he was pretty upset about the incident.
Everyone should really talk to their kids about the bathroom and make sure they know who they can go to if they need help. Just don't assume that the kids understand that they can ask the adults if they need something.

My DD is 5 and will be just a few weeks shy of turning 6 when we cruise. She is fully capable of using the restroom by herself. I was more inquisitive as to whether the boys and girls bathroom are adjacent, out in the middle of the club where the CMs could see a boy entering the wrong restroom, or where a CM monitors who goes in and comes out? I will be a bit more apprehensive to leaving her in the clubs if the restrooms are adjacent, in the back of the club, with no one watching them.

I agree. We will just go in the kid's club during Open House this trip. My daughter would probably be fine, but I myself am not ready for this and probably wouldn't be able to relax.

I'm not meaning to be mean, so please don't take it that way. I'm truly curious as to what you think would happen if a boy were in the girl's restroom or visa versa? Are you afraid she will be raped by another 6 year old? I just can't fathom what would be so worrisome. Boys go in to the ladies' restroom with their moms all the time. My now 6 year old goes in to the men's restroom with her dad when they are out. I just can't wrap my brain around your apprehension (to the point where you would not let her in to the club?)

And if you really are worried, can you have her go to the restroom before she enters the club and then come back every few hours, check her out, take her to your in-stateroom toilet and then return her to the club?

My apprehension would be that it is unsupervised. No, I do not think she would be assaulted in the bathroom. However she will be in the kids club with boys up to the age of 12 correct? I just want my child to be safe and I am just questioning the procedures in place to ensure that she is. I would not let my 5 yo child go to the mall restroom here at home without supervision

I googled the age as I did not pay attention when we cruised. Yes, you are correct the age limit is 12. Thanks for your honest reply.

I'm confused. Do teachers monitor the bathrooms at elementary schools? My son goes to a private K-8 school and is 5. When he needs to go, the teacher dismisses him and he could be in there with a 14 year old.

Do public school teachers have to accompany all kids to the bathrooms?

Parents are given a lanyard and are sent in to get their kids when they come to pick them up.

Ok, if you don't think she will be assaulted, what is the concern about the 12 year old boy?

And it's through 12, not TO 12.

Lovewinnie, I completely understand your concern, you and I think exactly the same way. I have not sailed on the Dream so I do not know the restroom set up. What I can tell you is that my 9yo had an issue in the Club restroom on the Wonder. :( She was using the restroom, sitting on the toilet in a stall when the CMs did a "restroom check" as part of their reaponsibilities and a Male CM came in, looked over the doors of all the stalls and he saw our DD sitting on the potty. :( When she told me about this I flipped out. I went and talked to the manager of the club, a female, and she was SOOO apologetic. I let her know there was definitely a training issue and that their processes needed to be reviewed with their entire staff. There is no way a male CM should be going into the girls restroom EVER. The manager apologized profusely and promised she would follow up with me again and she did. She called me later that day to say they had a meeting to go over processes and she apologized again.

Not good and very worrisome.

OP, you are a VERY good parent. I, too, would be concerned about my daughter being around 12yo boys. Too large of an age difference.
