I do not want to seem like a mother of a kid who is better than others--here is my delima--DD will be 7 1/2 on our cruise--she is a great kid, but tends to take over -she will be a great leader one day-- she mothers younger kids to a point where she does nothing else. I do not want her to get on the counselors or other kids last nerve. I also want her to have fun. Is it possible for her to move up to the next age group--I think this will keep her from mothering and taking over--they will basically put her in her place is what I think. Will she be able to hang with the older kids---not a problem. Don;t get me wrong--she is a great kids and is not a behavior problem--just tends to want to take control. How do they decide who gets to move up and who doesn't? Thanks for any answers.

My dd was 7 years and 3 months when she went to the LAB!! She had an older sibling in the lab. The CM's told me it was a trial basis and if she fit in she could stay. It never hurts to ask. Yes, their rules are if the child is one month from 8 then they can move up. That wasn't our case and she moved up. She would have been really bored in the club..........ASK THEM!!!

Above post is similiar to mine....Just got off the Wonder and My son was 7 1/2 years to be exact...I explained to CM that my son is matured for his age and he had also been in 4-6 years 2 times already and will probablry be bored. They allowed him to the 8-9 years group on a trial basis..of course, he stayed in it the rest of the cruise and LOVED IT!!!

From what I have read about the 5-7 club I thought she would be bored as well and then would really begin mothering and trying to help the younger kids.

I could be totally off base, and if so, then just ignore this......

If she is happiest "mothering" younger children, and likes feeling in charge -- why don't you leave her in the appropriate age group and have her be the CMs "helper". She might just be miserable in an older age group where she can't use her best skills.

Her mothering may seem like a challenge to you, but may be welcomed by the CMs and the younger kids. Young kids LOVE older kids that will play with them.

??

Just a thought

I'm with Lauri on this one. She may not be as quick to make friends with the older kids who aren't going to allow themselves to be bossed around. But younger kids do like to play with older kids- even allowing themselves to be told what to do a little bit.

You could try the age group where she is supposed to be and then talk to the counselors about moving her up if they see an issue with her behavior.

:D

I had not really considered that side before. I just did not want her to bother the younger kids and get on the counselors bad side (for not tending to her own self) I think I will let her go to the age appropriate group and if it is a problem then see if she can go older. Thanks.

I have the same concern. I'm sailing on the 3/26 Magic. My son will be 3 months shy of turning eight. He is in second grade and all of his classmates are 8. He has been on the magic before and has done all of the activities and has a very stong opinion that he won't go to the clubs with the little kids. Do you think they will let him in the 8-9 group? Our room will be right around the corner from the lab. Anyone have any help or opinions? :Pinkbounc

pigget- I think that she will have an awesome time and make new friends! :cool1:

From what I hear the counselors are really great at dealing with all personalities! (My friend has a child with the opposite situation. She has a painfully shy DD10 that she was concerned would rather hang out with her younger sister in the club. But she went to the lab and ended up making two really good friends and they still email each other two years later!)

No worries! :D
