Kids Club-moving Up Questions??

We are looking at taking a short fall cruise with our DD and in the past we have always cruised with Friends and family. This time we would be alone and so I was thinking of including my nephew in on the trip.

The problem is that my DD will be 6 and a half and Nephew will have just turned 9. Do you think that there is any chance they will let my DD move into the 7-9 with her cousin while on board in the clubs???

That is the main reason for takin him so that my BF and I could have some adult time....

Last cruise they let her other cousin who was 4 move up to the 5-7 year olds???? Anybody have luck with moving a 6 year old to the 7-9????

The requirement for a child to move up to the next age group is that they be within 30 days of the birthday that would put them into the next group AND have permission of the parent and kid counsellor (after the counsellors meet the child).

Since the age groups are 3-4, 5-7, 8-9, and 10-12, I don't believe that there is any way that a 6 year old would be allowed in the 8-9 group.

It is easier to move a child down (particularly in the case of a special needs child), but again, there's no way that a 9 year old would be happy in a 5-7 group. Let the kids enjoy their time in the club/lab in their age appropriate groups, and schedule "family time" with both....or leave the nephew at home and make some "on line" friends for your daughter before the cruise.

We've "met" some of our fellow cruisers thru the cruise meet section of the boards, and the kids have been talking on line. They are looking forward to time together on the ship. Our key to a good time in the kid programming has always been making a friend in the first day or two, so this was a great solution!

Haven't had personal experience with this but have seen several threads in the past where kids that were a month or so shy of 13 were allowed to move up to the teen club.

For the Oceaneer's Club I would think it would depend, at least in part, on how many kids are onboard in each category. They manage this and stop accepting bookings in a given category when the limit is reached. If it were a relatively "light" cruise I suspect it would be more likely than say at Spring Break when they are jammed.

They will not let a 6 year old in with 8-9. (we were told unequivocally that our 6 year old could not move up with our 8 year old's group)

Yes, I did not even think about the way it is broke up when I put out this thread. If he were just 8 they may let him go down,but I forgot he will turn 9 in August....It was a nice thought,but we may just have to leave him home this time.

My DD is always making a new friend everywhere we go.

We really only want her to go in one night so that we can go to Palo!!! Since it is only the 3 day she will be with us most of the time anyway.

I just won't worry about it!

I think your daughter will love the kid's club, even by herself. You may even find her asking to stay longer when you go to pick her up. The counselors do a great job with the kids and they make friends fast. You may want to let her go for an hour the first night so she can meet some other children. Have fun!
