If you have your kids birthday party out somewhere, like Chuck E Cheese, and its a few days before their actual birthday, do you bring their gift to the party to give to them then, or do you wait until the actual birthday and give it to them at home then?

We always do a family party in addition to the kid party, so I usually give my kids their main gifts at the family party. I may save a little something for the kid party though.

Although I will say that in the past few years, I have decided to hold off gift unwrapping until after the kid party. Its so hard for other little kids to sit there and watch the birthday boy opening his presents, so we usually take them home and open then and send thank you cards afterwards.

If it's days before I would give them the gift at the time but I always make a cake and sing Happy Birthday to them on the actual birthday.

since my birthday falls near or on a major holiday, my parties with friends are always about a week after or a week before my real birthday. my parents always gave me my presents from them on my real birthday when we had a family party.

I let them open their gifts from me before we leave to go to the party. Normally, we have have their parties at home. I let them open their presents from us before the party, unless they want to wait. This year, my ds chose to wait until after we sung happy birthday to him (well into the party).

I would wrap something small from us to take to the party and then Travis would open his family gifts at home.

We give the family birthday gifts at a separate time from a childrens birthday party.

Other children that come to my kids party will frequently bring a gift in the $10 - $15 dollar range and we don't think they should be compared to, or competing with, the larger gifts the family gives.

We try to have our children appreciate all gifts, but, if little friend Johnny gives my son a box of crayons and we give him a PlayStation 2, well.....We all know where the excitement level is going to be relative to each gift if they are compared.
