Kids birthday party from 4:30 - 6:00. Would you expect real food?

I would definitely do real food. Kids eating cake and ice cream that late are not going to go home and then eat something for dinner.

Just remember that you are the host and they are your guests. You serve what is within your comfort zone and what is in your budget. It is the weekend and quite honestly we eat later as do many of our friends on weekends.

We have been known to eat dessert before the main meal just because.

I was at a 6 year old's party yesterday. 2-4 and pizza was served. I'm not sure I would feel obligated to at that time but I would for 4:30-6.

I do not worry about feeding parents unless they are invited guests.

Long Islander here also. The last kid's party we threw we had food for the kids and the adults. Pizza, heros, salads etc. The party was from 11-1. We feed everyone no matter what time the party is. We just adjust the menu (bagels etc.). OP- I am glad you are getting pizza. Have a great time at the party.:cutie:

I wouldn't "expect" anything. I really wouldn't mind either way as a guest, I'd just want to know ahead of time if there was going to be "real food" or not so that we could plan accordingly. As long as your invites say whether dinner will be served or not, you will be fine.

I vote for serving pizza. It's fast and easy - and it will give the kids something in their tummies before the cake. I wouldn't want to send kids home at suppertime without having already eaten.

Thanks guys! Pizza it is. I will also have fruit as well so that there is at least something healthy.

Next question.....How many pieces of pizza per child? We are expecting around 20 kids so I was thinking one or two for each? We can always bring the pizza home and freeze it if we have extra. I will feed any parents who hang around, but I suspect that most parents (other than our close friends) will leave and come back.

Now I just have to find Olympic themed paper products! I think I might be out of luck there, but I can always go with the colors in the rings or just USA paper products.

Thanks again!

I always make sure to have at least 2 pieces per child plus some for any parents who may stay (very few do, but just in case). Extra pizza would never go to waste in my house!

I always do 2 per each child, plus an extra pie for adults (even if they leave, they usually return early, and eat). Make sure you have them cut the pies into 16 slices, to reduce waste.

I don't think you need 2 slices per child. They are 5 years old, right? I would plan on a slice and a half each and then enough for the parents.

Ask the pizza place to cut the pies into "half slices" (ie if it is an 8 slice pie, have them cut it into 16 slices).

We did a b-day party at the local gymnastics center and the kids were less hungry than they were THIRSTY!:drinking1 Our party was mid afternoon, so we just had cupcakes, but although some of the kids didn't even eat their whole cupcake, all went through at least one mini water bottle, and some drank 2! These were 4 year olds. I think if I were you I wouldn't plan on any more than 2 pieces of pizza, cut extra small, and extra drinks. Capri suns, waters, or "white pops" don't make a mess when rambunctious, gymnastics-drunk younguns spill. Have fun:thumbsup2
