Who knew it would be this hard? DS has a bike helmet, but over the winter he must have had some sort of strange growth spurt, because now it really does not fit him properly. (He does kind of have a big head which we know already).

He has been LIVING on his scooter whenever the snow has gone long enough to allow it (with helmet and full pads).

I bought his last helmet at Target, we tried it on, it fit, we bought it. I have not seen much yet at our Target, and was wondering what you all do? Bike shops? Wal Mart? Sporting goods stores? All of the above?

And, any reccomendations? He will be using it to scooter, to bike, and to blade. (he will be 7 in June)

of protection.......the ones that our son in law got for the kids are the most durable made....for biking.....skateboarding and scooters......granddaughter is 14 and grandson is 12 and they know that the helmets go on if they are on any wheels.....they wore them during snowboarding too at the ski resort.......
Go to a bike shop and see what they have......
another thing is the way it sits on the head.......I have seen some kids wear them on the back of the heads instead of ON the head where they belong.......
GOOD luck and safe biking for the family

My insurance company offers bike helmets via mail order at VERY reduced rates. Maybe you could check their website (if they have one).

The Children's Hospital in Milwaukee sells bike helmets. Maybe there would be a similar service offered at a nearby hospital to where your live?

I also agree with a previous poster to check out a bike store. We did that for DD, since I figured that they would help fit it properly. This was definitely more expensive than getting one at a department store, however, I feel better knowing that it fits her right.

The bike helmet doesnt have to be an expensive purchase. They are "created equal" when it comes to safety. (as long as approved by organizations listed below) now, comfort, design and decals of course cost more.

Our school/nurse offers discount helmets through a state funded program. I believe the youth helmets are around $8.00 each, and these are approved.

Approval needs to come fromAmerican National Standards Institute (ANSI) ; the Snell Memorial Foundation standard the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the Canadian Standards Association standard

Visit www.safekids.org This site has tons of info no bike helmets, and how to fit one etc...

DD's have NEVER been on anything with wheels without a helmet, from their first tricycle, to now rollerblades, scooters, bikes etc.
