Kids at California Grill

Just wondering if kids are allowed at CG. I really like the sound of this restaurant and can only go if I bring my kids (they're 2 and 4 and regularly eat with us in restaurants). No flames please, they're well behaved, stay in their seats, and if one acts up we take them straight outta there. I know I'd enjoy it more without the kids and all that stuff, but there's no way they'd stay with a strange babysitter (and I just wouldn't relax knowing they're upset).

I'm just wondering if we went to an early sitting, could we eat there. I wouldn't bring them if it's totally inappropriate, but they ate with us last year at Citricos and the Brown Derby and we had no problems.

Yes, children are allowed. I'm taking my granddaughter who's 8 in about three weeks! Enjoy!

We have brought my son here every quarter since he was about 10 months. He is 4 now. I have never felt it was a problem. We do an early PS and they provide goldfish and crayons to draw on the table. They have a nice children's menu too. One of the things we love about Disney is going to nice restaurants with our son and not feeling out of place.

We have had to take him for walks on occassion - there is a nice walk to outside deck - just to keep him busy. There is also a kid sized sink in the ladie's room where he likes to go and wash his hands like a big person.

Don't worry at all - it is also loud and active in the room.

That's great news guys- I was kind of afraid I'd be like a social pariah if I turned up with two kids, and was even a little nervous posting the question!

There were many children there the evening that I went. They were so sweet and polite. I will bring my children the next time I have dinner there.

We took our dd's-9 and 2-to CG last year and they loved it!(Although that was the most expensive bowl of macaroni and cheese I ever saw )The server was wonderful and paid lots of attention to the girls. We ate during the fireworks and it was awesome.

It is my DS's pick for his resturant of choice for this trip! He is 10. I think there is just something about eating that high up and even little kids like good service, though most don't appreciate the food. I think the nicer the resturant, the better behaved most kids are. Have fun with your little ones. We also have never chosen to use child care at WDW.

My kids love the California Grill! They have a kid's menu. For a special treat you might want to get your children the Kid's Sushi for dessert. It's made out of cereal, fruit roll-ups and gummi fish - my kids love it!

DW and I had dinner at CG last year and the kids joined us for dessert. They loved the kid's sushi. l

Oh, no, looks like another must do restaurant for us. ***********'s pictures have convinced me on another one.
What time should I book if the fireworks are at 10? I'd like it to be at the end of the meal. Thanks

The kids will be fine!!!

We took our two in 2001 (they were 4 & 6 then), and although they were really tired after a day at Blizzard Beach, they were, as always, very well behaved. (They love eating out and the trade off is that they behave!!)

Our server was great, the food spectacular. One gripe was that we had to leave before the fireworks as our youngest fell asleep!!!

IMHO well behaved children (I'm particularly addressing toddlers and preschoolers) are acceptable at all WDW restaurants EXCEPT V&A's, Shula's, and Citrico's. I feel that those three are more formal and parents should refrain from briging children under age ten or so to them. Yes, WDW is a family place, but just like there are activities that adults can't participate in, there should also be some child-free places for adults...and those three restaurants should be included.

If they cry, fuss, fidget, throw food, scream, get out of their seat for any reason other than to be taken to the restroom, or make any noise which can be heard above other diners, then they don't belong there. No exceptions.

At all non-family style, non character meal type restaurants, the key is that they should be seen and not heard. Period. Of course at ANY restaurant food throwing, screaming, chasing, etc. is not appropriate.

One strike rule applies. First time they begin to show signs of any of the above behaviour, the parents need to leave. Even if it means one parent leaves immediately with the kids while the other gets the food wrapped and takes care of the check.

It sounds like the OP is prepared to do this, and so I hope they enjoy eating at CG. You might also enjoy Narcooses and Jiko

I have taken DS since he was 5 - he is now 12 and still loves to go. He has never eaten from the kid menu because there are too many other good things to eat. We were there May 25 and there were young ones, well behaved, on either side of us. Our server paid equal attention to all his customers.

***He also showed us the "secret viewing area for the fireworks" its another spot near the wine room - not crowded, great breeze and only a little more to the left of the other deck - I highly recommend it.
