kid's appetizers on dining plan

I am taking my 5 year old son in April. We are on the dining plan. If we go to a restaurant that does not have a menu for children's desserts and appetrizers, can he order from the adult's menu?

Of the restaurants we went to there usually wasn't an appetizer on the menu for the kids, so we would oder the kids some soup/chowder. Most places had a kids dessert.
