I'm debating about whether or not to get my kids started on pin collecting. My older two are 7 and 5 (almost 8 and 6). We will be heading to our first WDW trip in a few weeks. I did get them autograph books, and I know they'll be very into collecting signatures. I was thinking that the pins may make things a little too crazy this trip. I want them to be able to focus on what to see and do at Disney, not so much on what they can acquire, you know? (especially DS, he's into "acquisitions")

On the other hand the pin scene seems like a lot of fun and I think they'd enjoy it. I know I would! LOL!

Any advice? Thanks!

My DS5 loves trading. He is so proud of his "finds", and it has given him something to look forward to on bus rides, while Mom and Dad are doing a little shopping, etc.; He loves talking with the various CMs who are all very friendly to him, as well as other kids.

We just picked up a bunch of pins at the Disney Store that were marked 50% off to trade on our upcoming trip in a couple weeks. He's sure excited.

I would say "go for it". :)

We just got back this past weekend, and my kids (7 and 5) sure loved pin trading!!! This was their first time trading, and I made it a point that they were to get pins they liked and not worry about its collectibility! I gave them a goal.... to fill their lanyard w/pins that they liked by the time we came home, and they sure did! Trading was strictly for fun, and they only traded w/CM's which BTW were all GREAT w/the kids :) . I would just put 3 or 4 pins in a ziplock and tuck them into their hip packs (lanyards get heavy after a while) and every now and again throughout the day they would check out a CM's lanyard. It in no way took over our trip. It was an occassional thing, and it was alot of fun for them. Each night we would return to our room and go through their pins. They would select 3 or 4 to put in the bag for the next day, and I would help them put the "keepers" on their lanyards :) Great fun!!!
