Kids and names...parents, think twice!

When we named our kids, I did not deliberately intend to repeat the first letter in their names...somehow, it just happened. The boys names are Kirk and Kyle, the girls Jeana and Jessica. My son doesn't have a problem being called by his brother's name (those of you who have been on the boards for awhile might know that my son Kyle was stillborn), but the girls face this problem almost daily! I know, as a mother, I sometimes call them by the wrong name, but now, my youngest, Jessica, is forever being called Jeana in school! She has had many of the same teachers that her sister did (only once when Jessica's first grade teacher got moved to 5th and Jeana had her that year did Jeana have to deal with being called Jessie). I know it is not anybody's fault but Jessie is starting to take this personal! Her teacher ALWAYS apologizes for the mistake, I just don't know how to keep it from happening!:bounce:

For anyone out there starting a family, PLEASE chose names carefully! :bounce: (Maybe George Forman has the solution!!;) )

phheww that was confusing...LOL!

John-Cole is forever being called John, or John Jr. or Little John .... DH John is not John-Cole he is John Henry. J.C. will tell them I'm not John, my daddy is John...either call me John-Cole or call me J.C. but don't call me John!!

LOL! :p

My name at home is MattBern.

So is my son's. :)

My mom has called me my brother David's name so many times over the years, I just don't bother to correct her (or answer her either).;)

My brother calls me my dd's name, then his dw's name, then he finally remembers what my name is.

My ds alternates between calling me "hey grandma", "hey dad", "muma", and sometimes "SHANNON!!!!!".

If I really want to make my kids mad, I call them by their first and middle names, but I use my ds's middle name with my dd's first name and my dd's middle name with my ds's first name.;)

I work with a lady named Sharon. People will call my line asking for her and I answer "This is Shannon", they still think I'm saying Sharon.

LOL!!

Growing up it was always, "Jamie, Jan, Jeremy, Josh... whoever you are, come here..."

LOL!

It probably doesn't matter what you name them.

When I yell at the cat, I call it by my son's name.

I'm the youngest of six kids (four girls, two boys), and I grew up thinking my name was MariePattiLindaKaren.

We went to a small Catholic grammar school, and one of my teachers once called me Tommy (my brother's name). My sixth grade teacher called me Patti the entire year (and Patti is 11 years older than me!).

Now, I'll answer to pretty much anything unless it is rude.

So, at least in my family, the first initial of the name doesn't really matter.

Karen

Our DS2 looks so much like his older brother, he's really hard not to call him Cameron. Even at his young age, he gets angry and says "I'm not Cameron, I'm Walker".

I love both names but we made the mistake of telling our oldest he could pick the middle name of his younger brother/sister. There's 5 years difference between them and we thought that it would help our older son "accept" his sibling. I regret allowing him to do this because he chose the coolest name he could think of -- Cameron. So, when I'm really angry at DS2, I'll say "Walker Cameron" come over here and he'll look at me with the big blue eyes and smile and say "I'm not Cameron". Makes it really hard to punish him after that!

No matter what you named your kids this would happen. My two sons names start with different letters and the teachers still call the younger one by the older ones name.

I am one of 3...Bill and John are my brothers.
Apparently my mother, for YEARS, thought there was a 4th child in the house named Johnna...that's the name she called the most :p ;) LOL!

No, I don't think it matter WHAT you name them, ...I've caught myself calling Ryan for Martin and vice versa

and mom would go down the list before she got to the right one.....usually my younger sister alice...she was in way more trouble then me......and she would pray alot......with six kids ....she would say Jesus Mary and Joseph ..with her eyes rolling...and I know that none of them were in our household:rolleyes:

I am forever being called by my Aunt's name (Cheryl) and vice versa. By my Father and my Grandmother.

I've never been confused with my sister's name. Probably because we look absolutely nothing alike.

My name has been GINALISA for as long as I can remember.

Except when it's LISAGINA.

Or hey you.

Whatever!

I have 4 boys and I too go down the name list til I hit the right one. The boys of course think its to funny I have to go thru a couple of names til I hit the right one. So finally I just say whatever you name is--behave!! lol

I am my mother's ONLY child, and she still calls me by her sister's names!
You would think with only one child, she could get it straight.
My Dad has 6 kids and they don't get us mixed up!

I did work with a man who was named Ted Head.
I thought that was quite amusing, and then his brother, Dick, called in...

Geez, I'm one of nine, so you can imagine what it was like in our house.

Billy Robby Jack Judi Nick Timmy Matt David Vanessa - any or all at the same time would do. :teeth:

AnonyMouse - ROTFL! I needed a laugh today - thank you!

Hmm, I don't mix up my DD and DS, but when I was teaching high school I did have one family of 3 girls, and I had each girl 1-3 years - and I did mix them up and sometimes have to go down the list....they did look remarkably alike... and I used to teach a foreign language, where the kids took a name in the target language - to this day there are some kids who I remember by their Spanish name - couldn't tell you their English name....;)

I used to do daycare for a little boy named Taylor. After I quit, his mom had another boy and they named him Tyler. Taylor and Tyler Thomas. Tell me that isn't going to cause confusion later! We also have friends that have boys name Garret and Jarod. I get them both confused!

We continually berate my parents for naming us.....Lisa Dale, Lori Dawn, and Leah Deon!!!!!! All the same letters and same number of letters. We are still even as adults called by our sister's name. We just shrug it off and answer. I only have one child and will only have one, but I was certainly not going to name them anything remotely similar or that started with the same letter.
Lisa

I grew up thinking MY name was BarbaraMikeROBIN!! :p

It was always a joke in my family that if my parents had MORE children, we'd have to wait the whole day till they got to our name!

And, yep, now that I have 4 cats and one son, I call them ALL before I get the right one!

My Godmother's Mother had 11 kids, she had a song to call them in:

HapEdJumpJackFred, PeteLotMinnieMaeDot, Elsie Bill and Elinor!!

The entire town knew that song! :teeth:
