I called my Sister last night. They had just returned from Wal-mart where her DS(4.5) licked the meat counter glass!

Normally I would have been more grossed out by this except that 2 weeks ago DD licked a fitting room mirror-twice!

Please tell me our kids are not alone in licking gross things!

DD used to lick our cheeks instead of kissing. Her dad taught her that. I was so proud. :rotfl: And darn glad she outgrew it.

Now she's 14 and insists on kissing every mirror in the house. While wearing lip gloss. Even making her clean them hasn't discouraged her. :teeth:

The kids will outgrow one weird behavior and pick up another one to replace it, believe me!

My DD does the same thing! She LOVES to lick glass, any glass at all. I really have to watch her! :)

my youngest DS had a fascination with the big trash cans at Disney one time. He would point out every trash can and I'd have to take a picture of of. He would then hug it and kiss it and say "I love you, trash can!" He did lick one one time and that was the last time he licked it cause he got a lickin' on his butt for that one!

yeah... imagine the looks we got from other people around us!

My kids never went through the licking phase. You guys are really making me laugh! :rotfl: I have noticed recently that they are fascinated with looking at themselves in the mirror - even when they are throwing a fit, they like to make sure they are looking their best. :teeth:

My three year old is in the "licking stage". He will run up to you and lick you when you are least expecting it.....we call it "lick and run" :p

I think I had to tell my youngest DS4 something gross like......"what if someone wiped poo poo on that or something"? He can understand the grossness of that and I don't have the licking problem any more! :rotfl:

My 3 yr old niece licks me all the time! But I don't think I'm gross.

Ugh, my four year old does that too. Only a few times out in public though. Usually he just licks us.

My 4 year old is in the licking us stage too. He has also tried licking the dog and cat, but after getting a mouthful of hair, he decided not to try that again.

uuugh, my niece did the same thing - with the licking instead of kissing - GROSS - I didn't let my doggie lick me and didn't like the kid doing it either. I refused to let her kiss me until she passed that - I am probably going to be flamed for that - but GROSS! I am not a major germophobe, but certainly not the touchy feely type. Thank GOD she passed that stage. Now she just loves to kiss and hug.

My DS went through that when he was 3. He would impulsively lick things like the fridge door, or mirrors. Once we went to the playground when it was absolutely freezing outside and he was just about to lick the swingset pole and I grabbed him before he could do it--thank Heaven I did, or we would've ended up with a scene like when the kid licks the frozen post in "A Christmas Story"!

Thankfully he no longer licks!

my neice (3) is in the licking stage. She licks everything! The funniest thing was one day while my sister and I were sitting in the house talking while dniece was outside playing with her dad. She suddenly appeared at the glass patio door about 5 feet away from my sister and I and tried to open the door. My sister didn't notice her at first so dniece began licking the window furiously. I about died laughing when my sister gasped and I looked over at what she was doing. All she did was smile and laugh when my sister told her to "stop locking the window, geesh, you animal!"

She has also turned around and rubbed her butt all over the window after getting out of the swimming pool, leaving booty shaped water marks and smears all over it.

Nope they are not alone my son is like that my daughters never did this but for whatever reason he licks things. He licked the ice cream freezer doors at the grocery store on the weekend. I told him he should actually wait till we get home then he can lick the actual ice cream from a cone rather than the yucky glass he thought it was funy and laughed at me go figure.

I thought I was alone. My daughter likes to lick me whenever she can. She is 3. After reading these posts, I guess this is normal 3 year old behavior. It's gross, but she makes me laugh when she does it b/c she tries to be sneaky about it. She'll say mommy, I want to lay on your arm and when she lays down she licks my arm and cracks up.

While at ice skating lessons with my DD a couple of weeks ago, I heard a mom tell her daughter, who must have been about 4 years old, "Great job, sweetie! Next time don't lick the ice!" So, no, your kids aren't alone in the licking of gross stuff! :rotfl:

DS is a licker too. He is 3. He mostly just licks things at home though and I'm always telling him not to. It seems like a curiousity thing. But this morning I caught him trying to lick the 2 yr. old I babysit while I was dropping off DD at kindergarten. I yelled, "Nate, don't lick him!". I got some strange looks from the other moms.

My son also licks the TV screen and my mothers patio doors and he always tries to lick my DW and myself and his sisters he cracks me up when he does it.

I don't have kids but this thread reminded me of what I saw my two nieces who are 4 and 5 doing on labor day. I went outside and the 5 year old was throwing a stick and making the 4 year old fetch it with her mouth. Kids are funny.

My brother had a habit of licking ketchup tops. You know, the kind you used to find in diners with the pointy tops. Mom used to watch him really close in restaurants, but once, when he had strep, he licked the top before she could stop him. She was so embarrassed to take the bottle to the counter and tell them the reason to throw it away.
