Kids and Counter Service Meals - can they order adult entrees?

Our kids do not like a lot of what is offered at the counter service places (uncrustables are "weird" because they're cold) etc.

Can we order an adult entree for them to split on the DP? Are they listed separately from the kids' entrees our cards or do we get 6 counter service credits per person, regardless of age?

We just returned Monday morning. Our kids had the same issues. We had three adults on our plan and most days when we stopped for CS lunch we just ordered three adult meals and split them between all of us. This coupled with a snack throughout the day was enough food to get us to dinners which were TS. A couple of mornings I got the kids Mickey waffles with their CS credits so we did end up using their credits along the way.

If you ask the CM at the CS place if your child can order off of the adult menu, most will say yes. I was able to order a hamburger and a chicken wrap for my boys at Pecos Bill.

Depends on where you go.

The only place to get a hamburger for a kid on the DDP was in Morocco. I thought that America would have burgers and hot dogs for kids. Boy was I wrong and in America they wouldn't let us order an adult hamburger for our child.

In Pizzafari in AK, pizza is not an option for the kids meal. The only reason we were eating here, but the staff let the kids order the pizza.

Ask if you are concerned.

We are getting DDP for the first time in December. I usually order the food for everyone at a CS because the kids are tired/feet hurt etc....

How would they know I was ordering for a kid or adult? I don't really have any intentions of trying to use kids credits for adult food, but I really really think hot dogs and hamburgers are kid food. I know some will tell me it is wrong.

I agree completely about TS. We have exactely 1 sit down meal a day and all are 1 TS so I do not plan on sharing or paying OOP for my child.

But, if she is really wanting a hot dog but it is on the adult menu of a counter service, I will just order it for her...This seems silly to me for a 7 year old to be denied a hot dog.
Kids want hot dogs etc... My daughter eats very little, usually wants a kids meal of her own and has no desire for adult "food".

yeah - our kids dont eat kid food at home. They've never had a hamburger or hot dog. Seriously.

I am actually considering upgrading my 9 year old so that she can get adult meals. She's got a HUGE appetite and won't touch kid stuff - ever.

(We are paying for our dining plan, just for the record, since I know this topic can get hot hot hot)

Your card will list the number of adults and children in your party. If the CM is a stickler, tehy might stop you.

I couldn't get my daughter a burger in America at Epcot. They didn't have burgers or hot dogs for kids there. Go figure.

For us our card said 2A 2C. If you all wanted to order an adult meal, then one adult orders 2 adult meals, while the the other adult also orders 2 adult meals. I did that at the food court in Pop Century.

I didn't realize the cards listed adults and children... I have never used it before. Well, now I know just in case my daughter wants a hot dog...I will just buy it OOP if needed.

I called today and upgraded my oldest to an adult. (And paid for it!) :)

There is NO WAY she'll be able to finish her food, so she'll share with her 2 year old sister who isn't getting a dining plan, of course. Or, if there is something that one of the older kids wants from the adult menu they can share and get the 2 year old macaroni and cheese or pasta - she'll eat anything.

Thanks for your help!

At the food court at POR, we were actually encouraged to order adult entrees for my 8 yr old. (And oh boy can he eat them!) At only two restaurants (Flame Tree and Pinnochio Haus) they noticed we had 1 child listed on our card and asked me to order a child's meal.

FWIR, enforcement of the rule against using child meal entitlements for adult meals is pretty lax at CS restaurants. It's still a violation of the rules, though.

The CS meals are pretty big especially when you consider that they come with a dessert. We usually shared 3 adult CS meals between us (DH, Me, DS10 and DS6).

Just for info, we spent two weeks at WDW a short time ago and almost all the CMS were very picky. We were four PAYING adults and all the CMS asked to see our card. They looked to see if we were all adults and then we could order. At some CS locations we even saw signs up telling people(and the CMS) that kids desserts came with the kids meals and they could not switch for an adult one. We noiced many people arguing with the CMS. IMHO Disney is getting very picky with the DDP.

I will have one grandson on the kid's plan. He does not like kid food. He does not like peanut butter and jelly and does not eat macaroni and cheese. He would much prefer a grilled chicken salad, calamari, or a steak. He is so unlike grandma who LIVES for peanut butter.

I hear you, travelbug - I love mac & cheese! :) :confused3

Maybe I could switch with one of the littles? :) :rotfl: :rotfl:

I don't try to mis use credits but the best example is the pizzafari place at ak. My kids want pizza.

Just sit with the children while dad goes up to the counter to place the order.

We had 3 adult and 1 child counter service credits. (DH, me. DS10 and DS6).

If we did want 4 adult counter service meals then I went up and ordered 2 adult meals and DH went up and ordered 2 adult meals. No one said anything, plus really one adult could only carry 2 meals at a time so both of us needed to go up anyway.

And yes we used the DS6 child CS credits for adult meals for him. There is no way he would eat some of those kids meals. He wanted a chicken wrap, chicken sandwich, a burger or a pizza. Honestly there is not that much difference in price between a kids meal and an adult meal (a couple of bucks).

We did use his child TS meals for child meals because the restaurants had more choices or where buffets.
