Yesterday I picked up my son from aftercare, and they asked me why I never make my son wear a coat. He wears a coat every day! I called my son over, and sheepishly he admitted that it's easier to play without one, so he just stuffs his into his backpack.

So basically, for the last month everyone at aftercare thought I was a terrible mother.

Does anyone else have to force their kid to wear a coat?

my 10 year old keeps assuring me that it is not cold outside and that she is just fine without a coat.

It's funny you say this.

My DD (almost 3) LOVES to wear her coat - in the house!! When it is time for us to leave the house she gives me such a hard time to put it on.

LOL!! Yeah, I guess I'm one of those mean parents who forces their child to wear a coat as well! :teeth:

Have the same kind of problem here - she leaves with it but doesn't come home with it - the other day had to pick something up right after school - sent her to get coat out of locker - she had 6 coats, sweatshirts, jackets - geesh

I have a 'hot kid'. He will wear his coat, but he gets so hot. I have made a deal with his Day Care, that if he says he is warm, he can take off his big coat, but he needs to put on another layer (fleece or a sweatshirt). It has worked out well so far.

Lol! We had a huge argument with my 16 year old last night about wearing a coat, I guess it's not "cool" to wear a coat with sweatpants to go to the gym....geesh! He said it looked stupid!!

Ya know my mom is still telling me and my DH to put a coat on - gotta love my mom!!

I am pregnant so I have been hot. I have to agree coats are too big and bulky - no wonder why DD has a hard time putting it on when leaving the house!!

Lisa

Oh yes....All I ever hear is "I'm hot." DD came out of after school care with coat stuffed in backpack. If I make her put in on, by the time we get to the car she would be taking it off, because before both kids get in the car their coats come off before they buckle up! Drives me nuts!

UGH!! My HS Freshman DS has worn a jacket/coat maybe twice all year!! His reasoning: He doesn't need it. Carpool in the morning, closed campus at school, carpool after school. So, he runs from a warm house to a warm car, from the warm car to a warm school, stays inside school all day and, runs from a warm school to a warm car again and, from the warm car into the house. Gee, I guess I should return that $100+ winter coat I bought??

DD, in Pre-K, still has recess so, I get to see ONE of my kids dressed properly in winter weather! ;) She did leave her gloves at school on Friday though and, she doesn't go back until 12/2. Luckily, she has several pairs of mittens/gloves (hats & scarves, too)!

And, I KNOW the "Hot Kid" story all too well! What I wouldn't give to be that way now! :p

LOL, I'm so glad to hear other parents have trouble getting their kids to wear a coat outside in the middle of winter. Once my dd hit her teens I couldn't keep a coat on her for anything. The funny thing is this year is the exception. She wears her coat everyday and no longer complains about being 'hot'.
