Kids and Bloody noses?

My dd4.5 has nosebleeds all the time. She's had surgery 3 times to try to stop them - most recently in March and June. She has 2-3-4 a day - some heavy, some not. Her most recent surgery was the end of June - the nosebleeds lessened for about a week but are now back just as before. She's really good about it - tucks her hand under her chin and says "I think my nose is bleeding".

The ENT has us use Little Noses every day and a humidifer at night. Nothing seems to help. They did a complete blood workup on her back in early June to make sure she had no bleeding disorders, Leukemia, etc. - everything came back fine. She has slight environmental allergies but nothing like her brother (7) has (who has seasonal allergies and is allergic to latex, milk and egg). He hardly ever has nosebleeds - he had a gusher this morning - he told me yesterday he couldn't breath through his nose - bet he has a sinus infection.

My son takes zyrtec - but I try to keep him off of it as much as possible.,

But about the bloody noses - my doc says to put a little vasoline in this nose. We just put it on a q-tip. I saw anothe post say the same thing.

Works.

My ds now 9 use to get nose bleeds all the time -- like OP it took about 20-30 mins to stop the bleeding. Our pediatrican did a blood test. DS has
Von Willibrand disease. It is a bleeding disorder--- more common than hemiphilia but many people don't know they have it. It is a genetic disease, ds is adopted so someone in birth family has it. He has a mild form of the disease. He wears a medic alert bracelet. Big concerns are facial/mouth injuries. If he as to have any dental work done the dentist has to be aware of it. We go to our local children's hospital once a year to the hematology dept for a check up. He is cleared to play any sport. DR said they would have to discuss football or hockey when the time comes.

BTW he was also on Zyrtec- liquid form at the time. We also stopped that too. the pharmacist thougth that might also be contributing the nose bleeds. He has been on Claritin for about 2 yrs now and the nose bleeds have been under control- still gets them - just not as long.

As OP questioned -- ds is/was a nose digger. He is getting better at stopping. That makes the nose bleeds easier bc the lining in the nose is worn down.

check w/ dr to see if blood test is needed
