I need help planning activities for the kids if we are rained in after my dd first communion. Also, any suggestions for what to put on tables? I was thinking buckets with markers, paper etc.. We are having it at a hall and I can't get in early to set up which stinks... The kids range from 4 to 15. Would be all set if it doesn't rain since there are playgrounds outside but right now the forecast is 60% rain.. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!

I should mention that the parents are bringing kids a change of clothing already since I was hoping we would mostly be outside...

For my older son, I bought the foam visors and some foam directions and letters and let the kids make a visor to take home, with their name and directions.

Is there room to dance, have someone bring some music?

Seeing as how the kids will likely be wearing their nicest clothes, I'd avoid markers or anything else that might stain clothing.

Foam stuff is great, and how about some puzzles and games? You could maybe do paper tablecloths and crayons on the kids' tables (ala Macaroni Grill). They could play tic-tac-toe, hangman, etc. MadLibs, easy Sudokus, word searches. Maybe a scavenger hunt or 20-questions game that encourages them to interact with each other (e.g. Who has been to Walt Disney World? Who has ridden a horse? Who is a Girl/Boy Scout? etc.)

Have a wonderful celebration.

I remember it rained for my First Communion!! We wouldn't have been outside anyways, though, because we were all dressed up.

My mom had games for us to play, some non-messy crafts, and I believe a movie to watch.

I'm sure you'll get lots of good ideas on this thread or perhaps you can find some type of party games to play by doing a google search for kids party games?

Good luck and congrats to your little one!

Went to one on Sunday with a DJ, and thank goodness! Kids ranged from 1 - 16, and they played musical chairs, mummy wrap, line dances, hula hoop contest, how many ballons teams could shove under tshirts... I don't know how they would've been entertained for 4 hours without him. He had all kinds of prizes (oriental trading cr**).

Put a statue of Mary in the window, that is suppose to help keep the rain away:goodvibes

You don't say how many kids but the little ones do best if they are lead from thing to thing. Free time is great but then some structure like playing a group game such as Red Rover or Musical Chairs. Some more free time then I like the idea of the music, kids love to do those sing along dances as a group. Do you think the teens would lead them along in some "Cotton Eye Joe" and stuff like that? Some more free time, a craft of some kind, have some cake and then home:thumbsup2

I hope your day ends up nicer than you expect

The music and dancing and games is great. One thing we did for DD last year.
We set up a table with crayons and coloring pages. All religious or Communion themed. We had every kid who came color one for DD. It's cool cause even the babies did it with some help. I put them in a book for her to keep. They could color as many as they wanted of course. Some of them were at that table all day.

At my son's first communion, we did it at a private room in a restaurant. We had the kids table with the foam religious thingies. They each had an 8x10 foam board and created their own religious design. The kids were 15 of them from 2-8. They loved it and kept them occupied and pretty quiet.

thanks for the suggestions! Music is def going on the list. A dj would be great, but will have to settle for an ipod :-) Hopefully the rain won't interfere, but I will stock up on foam stickers an such. Thanks again!
