Kidney Stones

Thank you everyone.

Today is a bad day for DD. She started feeling really nauseated again today and has not really kept anything down. What is so bad for her is that she is a college student and has clincals 3-4 days a week. She has a span of 13 hour classes on Monday and Wednesday and 10 hours on Tuesday and Thursday. We have the procedure scheduled for a Friday in a couple of weeks, so that she would not really have to miss any important classes. She had me call the doctor and ask for anti nausea meds, but he won't give them to her. I have been told that if she can't hold anything down and seems to be getting dehydrated that I should take her to the hospital, so they can admit her, hydrate her and put a stent in. They said the stent would help to remove any blockage and help her not to be nauseous. They would then send her home and do the other treatment on the scheduled date.

I know these doctors know what they are doing. They are working through Children's Hospital, but it just seems like so much for her to go through and it makes me worry.

The nurse also said that everything could settle back down and she might be fine until the procedure. I certainly hope so, because not only does she feel horrible, she is really worried about missing her clincals. I feel so helpless.

Tea is high in oxalates. Oxalates cause stones in some people. Until it is found what an individuals stones are caused from, many doctors will advise avoiding tea. It's a real problem down here in the south. Sweet tea is one of our main food groups!

Ah, I stand corrected.

Thanks for the info!!

Last July, 20mm stone. I went under general anesthesia.

I had a stent placed afterward. The stent was horrific horrible pain. I would have gladly taken the stone back over the stent. Now, most people don't have this kind of reaction, but it was awful. I called and had it taken it out early and passing the fragments was heaven compared to the stent.

Had another stone last November. Small one, passable.

My dd had a stone removed and had the stent also. She could definitely feel the stent and said it was very uncomfortable. They removed it a week later.

Hope you stay stone-free.:thumbsup2

I had shock wave 17 years ago...twice in 2 months only 3 months before my wedding. My stones were too large to get in one treatment. I don't remember a lot of pain after. I was just generally sore. I too had the stent which was removed a few weeks after the second surgery.

My stones were caused by infection. I had to "catch" them in the days after surgery. That was fun, especially since I had just started a new job. It was great to explain my gallon of water and bag of tricks.

Anyway, I've had the occasional UTI in the years since but never a stone. And I made no changes to my diet.

G/L to your dd. Mine were found on an xray done in the ER when I had the flu and they were ruling out other things.
