Kidney Stone Pain Question

I have a kidney stone in my left kidney that I am having a lithotripsy for on Wednesday. It has caused some discomfort, but not real pain. Tonight my lower back starting aching on my right side. I don't remember doing anything that would be causing this pain. My question is, is it possible that the back pain is kidney related even though it's on the opposite side of the stone? I hope not as we are having our DD dedicated tomorrow at church. I really want to be able to make it to Wednesday without the stone moving since it hasn't passed over the last month. Any idea about the opposite side pain? Tell me it's coincidental and can't be kidney related. Thanks!

I work for a urologist - not nursing - just transcription - so I'm going purely off what I hear on his tapes. But the pain can radiate to another area. I would say that it is strange that you don't feel pain on the left side as well though. Usually it's pain on the side with stone "radiating to . . . "

I would take some Motrin and see how you do. Good luck!

Drink lots of water. LOTS.

DH has had kidney stones, and I seriously thought he was about to give birth as we raced to the ER. And I have a friend who has 5 children and has had kidney stones, and she said that the kidney stone pain was worse.

I have had Kidney stones on 2 occassions, a few months after the birth of each of my children. The pain can radiate, have they had you "watching for them"? You may be getting ready to pass them. I had to strain my urine till I passed mine so they could get one to test. Fun Fun Fun! I feel for you, yes lots of pain killers will help!! Guzzle the water drink till you can't anymore, you need to flush them out! Good luck!!

I've had 5 kidney stones. When I feel the pain in my kidneys, it takes about 2 weeks for it to pass. Drinking water helps it to pass. They are right up there with giving birth, that is for sure!
