I just read the back label of my Ban roll-on deoderant (My dd3 licked it!!?? )

and I see it says that folks with Kidney disease should ask their DR. about using it.

I have Polycystic Kidney Disease and never saw this label before....i will ask my DR. at my next appt. but was curious if anyone here knows why this is??

Thanks.... :wave2:

Wow, I use Ban and haven't noticed that. My mom was on dialysis for 4 yrs before she passed on and used Ban. I will look into this.

Thanks luvwinnie......I live in Bergen county too!

So far I am just monitering my kidneys but I saw on another post about your mom...
so sorry...

It's the aluminum in the anti-perspirant. People with kidney disease need to limit their contact with aluminum. You should switch to a deodorant only. I switched years ago, after reading about other problems aluminum causes.

Thnaks Honu.I never heard about that one!!
I guess i'll be switching!

I have been good about giving up OJ and potassium filled drinks..but now Dr. mentioned Tomatos.......
I make a mean gravy and love my Jersey tomaotos...but I guess I will be cutting down.......

According to government documents from June 2003, “The FDA is concerned that people with renal dysfunction may not be aware that the daily use of antiperspirant drug products containing aluminum may put them at higher risk because of exposure to aluminum in the product. The FDA considers it prudent to alert these people to consult a doctor before using or continuing to use these products on a regular basis.” Aluminum is the major ingredient in standard antiperspirants. The FDA thinks it prudent to remind people with kidney disease to consult a physician.

Thank You....I guess I had better start reading labels more often!! :flower:

Interesting. I had heard of a possible link to breast cancer also. Hmmm.

I was glad to see that Secret Deo is on the P-free list. My nail polish, OPI is on the "bad" list.

Wonder if it would have delayed my mom's renal failure to have known this years ago...

I am so sorry....please don't think like that...I am sure that there is some problem with these chemicals..but probably not that great a risk..
I think my nephrologist would have told me..he is very good!

I'm sorry about your Mom, luvwinnie. The announcement about anti-perspirants and kidney disease was made fairly recently. :grouphug:

I have PKD too, and noticed that on a few antiperspirants. There are variations even within brands (some Secret types have it, some don't). Never thought to ask my doc though.
