This may sound a bit nutty, but I was thinking about booking a pool view instead of savanna view. I like the animals and all but I have a feeling that most of my balcony time may be spent looking at grass. And I like to people watch. I kinda like pool views. Any thoughts?

I think a pool view would be great. The pool area and landscaping look fabulous. Plus it saves a few points over savanna view.

Just be aware, "pool view" falls under Standard View which is listed as pool or parking lot views. The standard view villas at Jambo all happend to have pool views (I think) but the standard view villas at Kidani can be parking lot or pool - if you want to stay in Kidani you can request a pool view but it's not a guarantee.

We have two 'standard' view rooms booked at Kidani in October. We figure we can still see the animals when we want, we saved loads of points on the savannah view and if we get a pool view it will be nice but we really don't care what we're looking at from the room when there are gorgeous grounds to explore. the only time we're likely to be in the room is when it's dark or when we're getting ready to go out so who cares what the view is like :)

We had a standard view and had no issues with seeing animals. They were right across the hall...zebras, giraffes, ostriches, ankole cattle, wildebeasts. And the hallways have huge windows everywhere so you can look out and see them all the time. It is really fun how soon you go from "wow! Zebras!" to "oh...look...there are the zebras..." (like you would with chipmunks or squirrels at home). You can see them from the lobby and either side of the lobby have areas filled with rocking chairs for viewing.

We were able to stay longer without the view and I would happily do that any trip!

What did you see from your standard view?

We faced the front of the resort. If we stood out on our patio, we could turn to the right and see the valet and lobby (a ways away). To the left was the path to the bus stops. Since we were on the second (main) floor, we definitely kept the sheers closed most of the time. But with all the cameras flashing everywhere at the animals, I think that's a good idea at AKL/AKV anyway. There was enough of a distance with plants and trees that people did not walk right in front of our room on their way to the pool or bus.

Despite this "view" our room was super quiet.

Regarding the pool view at Kidani, does anyone know where I can see a map of Kidani? My understanding (and I may be wrong) was that the pool was across the parking lot from the hotel. If that's the case, how can there be any pool view rooms without the same rooms being parking lot view? When we visited Kidani a couple weeks ago, we never did find the pool, and someone told us it was "over there", pointing across the parking lot.

Someone scanned this from the book given to us at purchase ... you can see the water/pool areas are out across from the entrance, but it looks like that parking area is small and a level lower so it lines up with the garage below the building. There should be a walkway 'bridge' in there somewhere too. Looks like the best views will be the 3rd building north of the lobby if you want to make a request.

ETA: Just noticed the pool is in the shape of a Dove. LOL.

I think a pool view would be nice too, but like others said it is not guranteed. If you are fine looking at the parking lot too then I would book a standard view. We did not request anything and had a lovely room overlooking the parking lot. :)

I don't have a resort map but I have a couple pictures I can try and show you the pool and the rooms tht are overlooking the pool.

You are correct. There is a small parking lot between the building and the pool area. The Kidani maps make it look like the parking area is on the same level as the guest rooms but in fact that lot is on the ground level so it will be 10-12 feet below the balconies of the second-floor guest rooms. But even so, if you get a room with a pool view, you will also have a bit of a parking lot view.

Here are some photos that may help. I took all three from the balcony of our room. The first one shows the fitness center (the brown building) and the pool area which is to the right of the fitness center behind the trees. You can also see the parking lot on the level below.

The pool area is actually on two levels. There is a hot tub and slide entrance on the second level near the fitness center. From there you go down some steps to get to the pool and water play area.

Guests in the south wing and in the first building segment in the north wing will probably opt to access the pool area via the walkway from the main entrance. Those in the second building segment and beyond in the north wing will find it quicker to take the Rafiki parking lot elevator to ground level and walk straight across that small parking area to the ramp up to the pool area (not visible in the photo). Once Phase 2 opens, the map shows another entrance to the pool area from the 4th building segment in the north wing.

And here are a couple of photos showing the walkway to the pool from the main entrance. The first photo shows Kidani's port cochere. You can see part of the walkway leading from the entrance to the pool area in the lower left corner of the photo. The second photo shows a bit more of that walkway where it passes in front of the first and second building segments in the north wing of Kidani. It's a very short walk from the main entrance to the fitness center and pool.

OT (Sorry OP) but isn't that the most beautiful thatch roof? Not a bad view at all and I'm positive would be great for people watching.
I think it was one of the better Standard Views at Kidani. We felt quite lucky with our room assignment. It was quite pretty at night because there are over 20 flickering lanterns on either side of the main entrance.

What room number did you have? Studio or 1bdr?

Thanks so much for showing me a Kidani pool view. Until I see more pool in the view there, though, I think I'll stick with Jambo house if I want a standard view, since this is their pool view-

And even a value studio's pool view looked like this-
