Hello everyone. This is my 1st thread on this board! Wheeha!

Regarding AKV pools:

For those of us with no kids, I just wanted to mention that there are no plans for a quiet pool at AKV's Kidani Village. This will be the first DVC resort without one, which I hope is not a trend. I was shocked. However, I do see that space is at a premium with so much of the grounds dedicated to the "savannah" areas.

Instead of a quiet pool, it will have a kids' water-play area adjacent to the family pool. Hey, if you've got kids, this resort's got everything!

Without kids, we opted to go for more SSR and skip AKV based on this information.

The Jambo house also does not have a quiet pool. This not a trend. It simply reflects that they use most of the outside ground for the savannas. That also results on your having few places, front area, a few viewing areas, and pool area, to even exit the building.

Good morning. Yes, I do understand the part about the savannah taking up space (hence my comment of "I do see that space is at a premium with so much of the grounds dedicated to the "savannah" areas"). It is very unfortunate that AKV will not have any quiet pools. This is an important amentity to many.

However, the Kidani room mockups I saw at SSR's preview center - and at Chicago's Doorway to Dreams - make them the most beautiful DVC accomodations I have ever seen. This will be one lovely DVC resort! :cloud9:

Too bad about the quiet pools though . . . :sad2:

(About the "trend", with BLT being a high-rise complex it too may not have quiet pools as there may be no space for them. I am anxious to see this for myself.)

You bring up an interesting point. We have one child and we never thought of that aspect of AKV and Kidani Village.

Also, looking at the limited concept art of BLT there is no quiet pool depicted there as well (It looks more like a feature pool). If there is no quiet pool built at BLT then we can call it a trend since it happened twice in a row.

Does anyone know if GCV will have a quiet pool? Will they use the exisitng pool, or build a separate quiet pool for GCV guests only?

Excellent question.....if GCV doesn't, then that will be 3 new resorts without a quiet pool, definitely a trend. This will affect my decisions for future ressie's as I really look forward to the quiet pool. I can't believe its all about space. So sorry to hear this about AKV and the presumed BLT....:worried:

can I ask a dumb question? what is a "quiet pool"?

A quiet pool is a second pool away from the main pool. It doesn't usually have a sliding board and is smaller than the main pool. Families with children often go to the main pool leaving the quiet pool for adults (but it's not a rule of course). The resorts that cover a large area of land typically have quiet pools (SSR, OKV, BWV, CSR, etc.). But that's not a rule either as VWL has a quiet pool.

WDW doesn't even call them "quiet pools" these days.

At the GC, there are already two pools. One is an activity pool. The other adjacent to it has nicer lounges and I "think" may be limited to adults or at least in certain hours. Hopefully a Left Coaster will help here. Both pools are gated with key entry.

The Pool at Kidani Village is one of the main reasons I am booking our next large family trip there. We are already talking about all there is to do for the kids. I have grandchildren, We are very excited about this pool!:goodvibes I love hearing children laugh. Now, crying is another story.:rotfl:

Just so you may avoid potential disappointment, be aware that "quiet" pools are not necessarily quiet and they are certainly not guaranteed to be children-free. (nor are they required to be by TPTB)

In fact, quiet pools can sometines be LESS relaxing than some "main" pools. Often entire families will hijack a quiet pool and behave as obnoxiously as they probably do at home. These pools have no lifeguards, so ball throwing (not rubber ball-real footballs and softballs), running, jumping, throwing food in the water, etc etc. can easily take place. We have been driven from quiet pools a # of times in the past by just such behavior. Fortunately we have a car and can go elsewhere.
So never assume going to a quiet pool will be relaxing...

For real. I think sometimes the "main pools" are more relaxing. The worse behavior I've seen at WDW pools have been at the quiet pools, couple of times I almost felt I needed hotel security. Mainly unsupervised teenagers, and the occasional parent in a book while little precious Jimmy destroys pool and property.

I think they don't call them quiet pools anymore because there were too many complaints about the fact that they weren't all that quiet. Guests heard the word "quiet" and they expected quiet as in decrease of noise level. Only way to get that is to ban guests under a certain age (say 16) from using the pool and Disney will never do that. (I know there is at least one adults-only pool at Universal, at the Portofino Bay resort)

I think California law requires that all pools, even those at hotels, be fenced in, which is why the Disneyland resorts have gated key entry.

There are no DVC resort "quiet pools" restricted to use of the guests of the DVC resort only. Guests from the main resort use them also.

Last time at BWV the main pool closed for 2hrs. DD didn't want to go to the "quiet" pool.
The view from our room was of the quiet villa pool. DD was watching the games and asked to go. I said sure....but I thought you didn't want to go to the "quiet" pool.
DD says.....I thought you had to be quiet...lets hurry up before someone tells them to stop playing and be quiet:lmao:

DVC's Vero Beach Resort also does not have a "quiet" or alternate pool. They have their themed pool only with slide, children's area in back with pirate ship, however, this works fine for my family of adults and 20 something DD's.

Not sure about HHI?

However, Vero Beach has the beach! So it has alot of quiet-beach area without going to the main pool. ::yes::

We stayed at SSR 2 years ago (2/06) and our son was 6 at the time. Trust me the "quiet" pool was "busy" :dance3: and "noisy". :moped: If you want a peaceful adult vacation a Disney Resort may not be the best place for you. I'm glad to hear they stopped calling them quiet pools.

We were at SSR for the entire month of February and stayed at Congress Park. We usually used that pool nearly every day. It is not a quiet pool. It is quieter than High Rock pool, but by no means an adult quiet pool.
