Here's the situation...

We are taking my parents to AKV in April, over Easter. They have never seen the AKL since their last trip was in Feb 2001 and it was not built yet. For our first 2 nights, we will be in studios at Jambo (mom and dad are in a standard, we are in a savanna view). Then, we are all going to stay in a standard 2BR at Kidani for 3 nights. This will be our first trip to Kidani too, although I was there in October to eat at Sanaa for my birthday.

So, as far as room request goes, here are some things I am tossing around...

1) We are driving down so we will have a vehicle
2) Mom and Dad love the convenience of the bus so we're not sure how much we'd drive
3) The self-parking is right under the building, so if we drive ourselves, we could have a short walk to our room if we are on an "end"...
4)...but if we take the bus (or valet, mom is "handicapped" so it is still free for us), we would want to be closer to the lobby to avoid a long walk
5) We are arriving on Easter and staying the rest of the week so it will be very busy, so we might not want to depend on the busses

WWYD? Request a room near the lobby for easy access to the valet/busses? Request a room near the pool? (DH and I want to use the gym and the kids will definitely want to play in the water play area) Also, we're staying standard so is there any particular floor that has an advantage? If we were staying savanna, I'd want the 3rd, maybe 4th floor. With a standard room, would a higher room be a little quieter?

I think the room location that I'd want would be an upper floor, close to the pool and close to the lobby. Does that even exist?

;) We stayed at Kidani last year and loved the second floor rooms with SV....with a higher floor sometimes you have a tree in the way for a clear view of the animals below.

Have you requested a handicapable room for your Mom if she needs it?

Would your Mom need an ECV?

My mom's "handicap" is a hot topic in our housepopcorn::. About 15 years ago, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and put on a "new" chemo. That treatment eradicated the cancer but nearly destroyed her lung tissue. Her pulmonologist said that her pulmonary function was at about 15% of normal. She ended up with a very serious pneumonia resulting in the placement of a chest tube. The chest tube damaged some of her intercostal nerves so she suffered with chronic pain for about 5 years. She had a spinal cord stimulator implanted about 3 years ago and has been pain-free ever since:wizard:.

Now, her only real "handicap" is that she is very prone to respiratory infections. She sometimes can get winded with extensive walking, but she can golf a 9-hole round without a cart:love: so Disney won't be too much of a challenge for her. She qualifies for the handicap/disabled status solely because of her pulmonary function tests. Her body has adapted to it so well that most people would not even notice.

So, (once again I have used my talent to make a short story long:rotfl:) to answer your question, no, she will not need an ECV or a handicap room.

I really don't understand why you feel the need to put the word "handicap" in quotation marks? It sounds to me like your mom has a disability, plain and simple.

My son has a disability. I would never use the word handicap or "handicap" to describe him. He has difficulty with walking anything more than short distances. Due to all the walking you need to do when you are in the park, we get him a wheelchair.

You should ask for a room close to the elevators so your mom doesn't have to do too much walking to get to the busses or the pool.

My MIL has COPD and often finds herself gasping for air when we walk too long or too far, so I totally understand your concern.

It's hard to be located exactly next to everything we want at Kidani. :goodvibes Pick what is MOST important and list that first. Which thing would you be MOST upset if it was inconvenient? We were there at Christmas and had no issues with the bus and prefer not to drive anywhere when we're on property, but that's a very personal thing. We only used the pool once as it was freezing when we were there. Even if it was nice, we might only use it twice, so I wouldn't rank that location at all. I wanted to be close to the lobby for my refillable drink station! :rotfl: We did have some chronic stompers and furniture movers over our second bedroom (which really honked off my DD11 when it woke her up!) so if that's something you want to avoid, request a high floor.

If your list is ranked in order of importance to you, then go for it. :thumbsup2 The whole place is just lovely, enjoy your time there!!
