got the 6 am phone call that school was closed because of snow today:banana: So, instead of planning mid terms for my students I chose to plan our vacation today! Sunday is the 7 month mark for us, and I am calling with my list at my side. I have narrowed it to the Kidani section of AKV, but need help with any specific location. We have stayed at the Lodge, but never in the villas yet. our 3 yr old DGS will be coming, so a savannah view is a given (hopefully one will be available). High floor, specific savannah? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Also need to decide where to tack on a stay at FW cabins - the end or beginning of the trip. I promised him we would stay in a "real" log cabin - but being only 3, maybe I can get away with the WL being a "real" log cabin.;)
Since I got my DH a snow blower for Christmas, I think I'll let him handle the snow today while I sit by the fire and do my planning.:) Thanks for any input.

We've stayed on both the second and fourth floors at Kidani. Lower levels definitely give you a better view, as you're a bit closer and just below the height of the tree canopies. However, when we stayed on the fourth floor we were just as happy with the view because, although trees were blocking some of the views, many of the animals were in plain sight for us. I guess it depends on the room location when staying on the upper floors. Also, a "close to the lobby" request is a common one at Kidani. Some people report that the walk to those rooms located at the far ends of the hallways feels very long. Close to the lobby will place you near the bus stops, pool, and the ammenities in and around the main lobby (community hall, convenience store, Sanaa, game room, etc.)

As for which Savanna, definitely request the Sunset Savanna. While the Pembe Savanna has a few unique animals on it, I think your DGS will enjoy looking over the much larger, Sunset Savanna.

...and I think you could definitely get away with qualifying the WL as a "real" log cabin. In fact, I'd tell your DGS that he's staying in one of the largest log cabins he'll ever see! That may be pretty exciting for him.

Enjoy Kidani! It's my family's favorite!

Just agreeing with all of CarpeDisney's suggestions. We requested third floor, near lobby and got just what we asked for. The third floor, Timon section gave us very nice views of the entire Sunset Savannah, we were very close to the bus stops (we were located to the right of the lobby as you face the savannah), and the drink refill station at Johari was easily accessible. The pool was an easy walk too, but would have been even more convenient if we were on the left arm of the building.

Have fun planning today and stay cozy!

your information is most helpful! I am really looking forward to staying at AKV with a 3 year old!:)

All you need to request is close to lobby and lower floor -- if you get that you will be close to lobby and you will be on Sunset Savanna because Pembe savanna rooms are not close to lobby. Whatever you do make close to lobby your no.1 or top request. The walk to the end rooms at the north wing of Kidani does not just "feel" long, it is very long, over a 1/4 mile, and thus request close to lobby if you want to be in real walking distance to any of the amenties and services at Kidani.

Can't really help on when to do cabins because frankly I would not do that when having a DVC room.

never say never...I never thought WE would be returning to the cabins, then along came DGS. My 25 yr old DD (his aunt) is laughing because she says we never returned to the cabins when SHE wanted to go back, now of course DGS likes log cabins so away we go!!:rotfl:

Ditto. We are at Kidani now and although we requested "pool side" of the resort or near the lobby we are actually on the other side of the resort in the very last room in the hall. Could not be farther from pool or lobby. If you look at a map there is one room at the "tip" of the resort - 7264 - that's us.

But savannah view is great. Especially around feeding time.

I have fond memories of staying at the FW trailers when our DSs were young, and I know DS (36) would love to do one someday with his family. I fully expect to be booking one for them one of these years!
