Kidani-June UY-Anybody make reservations today?

Just curious. I went ahead and banked mine today but was wondering. What happens if it doesn't open May 1? Hmmmm...

I didn't try to book because I'm not staying there until November 09 BUT I think I read somewhere on these boards that they are not booking rooms yet..... ?

Maybe that's the answer. I'm sure they will give owners some priority/exclusive window of opportunity to book but they won't allow booking until they are positive they will make the opening date.

I just thought it would be an interesting situation to have booked and them not hit the opening date. Besides potentially hundreds of angry people that had already taken vacation time and booked non-refundable airfares, what would they do about points expiring (my ultimate question).

At Jan 31, 2009, we (those of us with a June UY at Kidani) are going to hit a "have to bank by" window. We're going to be ticked if they open booking in Feb. See my point?

It will be interesting to see it all unfold. I'm sure Disney has been here before with the other DVC resorts. This ain't their first damnce. For that reason, I thought someone might know the flow of things (given the history).

I'm still so lost on this whole banking points thing it's making me crazy. I too have a June uy and I thought I would not have to bank any points before booking a November of 09 trip. Can't I book that in December of 08 using my 08 points? I thought when I book that the points were spent, but now you have me thinking I need to bank them before Jan 31 because my trip isn't for another 11 months ..... oh why is this so hard for me to understand

With a June use year, a November 2009 stay would be in your June 2009 use year. 2009 would be current year points, you could also use 2008 banked or 2010 borrowed. If you want to use 2008 points for this, you would need to bank your 2008 points first when you call in December. Without banking, those 2008 points expire on 5/31/09. Your stay is after that date. Your banking deadline for 2008 points would be January 31, 2009.

I do not understand why you banked all of your points at the beginning of your UY. Do you not plan to go to WDW at all during your '08 UY?

PS. I could never really be sure that I wouldn't want to go to WDW this far ahead. I would be a "later" banker rather than an earlier one. Also, I'm more a borrower than a banker.

We will be at AKL May 1-8, 2009. I've been calling day by day. If Kidani will be open, and MS is taking ressies later in the summer or in the fall, we will probably switch.

I think WilsonFlyer just bought AKL DVC like myself. We were given bonus points to use at SSR that are good until May 09. This December I'll use the free points and buy APs to use next November as well. I also banked my points today because the next time we hit the "World" using our own points will be in Nov 09.

That's exactly right.

Unless I can get (and WANTED) a booking in May of 09 and ONLY in the month of May of 09 (The ONLY time my points could be used since Kidani isn't scheduled to be open until May 1, 09 and I can't use them until my resort opens), keeping my points current would be unnecessary. They're banked. I have my developer SSR points to use in Dec 08 (booked) and April or May 09 (leftover developer points) if I choose to go back and I will have, in essence, double my points (triple if I borrowed) for use after June 1, 09.

I didn't have to give up one single vacation to double my points next UY.

Make sense or did I screw up? LOL

Are you saying that they gave you '08 AKV points but that you bought into Kidani and you can't book because your building isn't ready. Do they really have '08 Kidani points?

Obviously, I don't have a clue about people who bought into Kidani! Our points are in Jambo...I'm sure you know what to do that's best for you!

That's exactly what they did. I have 08 points that could only be used May1-31 of 2009 because my UY is June.

I can't use the points at all until my resort opens because if I were able to use them at another DVC, my resort offers no recipricol for those owners (remember mine's not open yet).

Unless I want to go to Disney specifically in May of next year AND insist on staying somewhere other than SSR, it would be foolish not to bank the points and I already know I'm not going next May. Even if I did, I would use what's left of my developer points at SSR. For that reason, I get to start my first actual usable UY in Kidani with 320 points (160 banked from 08 + 160 2009 points coming in June 09).

Clear as mud?
