Kid-friendly blogs?

My 9 year old DD wants to start a blog. She loves to write and I would check everything before it goes online, but I'm a little nervous about her doing a blog for everyone to see. Is there a blog site out there that's kid friendly? Or would a Facebook page be better, where she/I would have to grant access to anyone looking at her page.

I don't recommend Facebook for a nine-year-old. It's for high schoolers and older. I believe you have to be at least 14.

MySpace is 13. And it's got a reputation for attracting creepers.

I would suggest using blogger.com. She can pick her own layout (if you don't like the ones offered, there's plenty of others to choose from - google "free blogger layouts") Make sure to proofread all of your daughter's blog entries before she posts (not for grammar/spelling... just make sure the content is appropriate and doesn't include any personal information). You might want to disable guests' ability to leave comments for security reasons.

As for attracting readers, have her give her friends the URL. You might want to make little cards. I don't recommend advertising her blog online. Maybe on the DIS, though.

I use Blogger. You can restrict viewership to "invite only", to ensure that only those you want to see her blog actually do.

I had to put mine on "lock down" for a while due to some drama with my husband's ex wife, and the security features worked wonderfully.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. We got her set up on Blogspot and will be approving every post before it goes up. She's excited about it and planning to write some stories to post.
