Kid club age break down

Nursery = under age 3 (and this has recently been a very set limit, no moving up until 3 yrs old)
Oceaneers Club and Oceaneers Lab = ages 3-12
Edge = ages 11-14
Vibe = ages 14-17 (no 18 yr old allows)

Those in the "overlap" ages may attend both kids' spaces for which they qualify.

Enjoy your cruise!

We just got off dream yesterday and they would not allow our son who will be three in less than one month into clubs. They wouldn't even discuss it. I also called DCL before we left and spoke to management and they also said no exceptions and had my travel agent call.

This is a fairly recent change that has been reported here. They are very strict about the policy now.

Heart82381...did your almost 3yr old enjoy the nursery? My twins will be 2mos away from 3 and their brothers will be in the kids club (4 & 6 yr olds)...I fear the nursery will just be too young for them?? They are used to doing the big kids stuff!! The only benefit I see to the nursery is they may take a nap?? But cannot see them wanting to be around baby swings and cribs.

What is the counselor to kid ratio? Ages 3-12 seems like a large age difference compared to the other cruise lines.

I don't know the specific counselor/kid ratio, but while it's a large age range, there's (sort of) two different groups in that space. Oceaneer's Club is ages 3-7 and Oceaneer's Lab is ages 8-12. There are age level appropriate activities in the Club/Lab, however anyone in the Club/Lab can participate in whatever activities appeal to them, regardless of age.

I don't know the ratio, but the reason for the spread is because too many parents were complaining that their little darlings in different age categories couldn't POSSIBLY be split up, so DCL merged the club and lab into one.

My niece was one week shy of her third birthday last week on the Fantasy and so could not be in the Oceaneers lab/club. She had a great time in the nursery and got plenty of attention/play time from the cast members. She was very happy. :)

Our son did not like the nursery. He went once and never went back. It is a great nursery, but expecting a 2.5-3 year old to stay busy in there is asking a lot. They do get a lot of attention, but he doesn't want that. He wants to run and play, and the nursery just isn't the place for that. disney is missing an area for toddlers. Even if it is confined in the nursery area, and they add andys room or something like that it would give them sooo much more to do than watch TV.

My son is almost 8, would they let him play in the Oceaneer's Lab?

Absolutely! The Oceaneers Club and Lab are both open to ages 3-12. Programming in the Club aims toward the younger and programming at the Lab aimed at the higher end of that age range, but anyone ages 3-12 may participate in either location. On the Dream and Fantasy, the kids move freely between the two spaces; on the Magic and Wonder a CM will walk the child to the other space on request.

Good to know. DS will be 12 on our next cruise. He loved the Club/Lab last time when he was 10 and I know he'll love it again. I know he'll definitely want to check out the Edge, also.

I know kids in the Edge can come and go when they please. Can a 12 year old come and go from the Club/Lab without an adult checking them in and out? He carries a cell phone to middle school so we'll trust him with a wave phone on-board.

Thanks,

Martin

Yes, I believe parents can sign to give a child self-check-out privileges as young as 8 yrs old. If he attends Edge, you will have to allow the self-check-out at the Club/Lab. If a parent does not wish to allow that privilege, the child may only attend the younger club even at ages 11 or 12.

Enjoy your cruise!

???

I never complained, but age restricting siblings was a huge turn off for DH & I many years we considered going. When we last looked into it we were happy to see they'd been removed and we booked. Sounds like a good business decision.

On the flip side, there are people who don't like the huge spread in the clubs because there is such a big difference between a 3 year old and a 12 year old - and more than one person has posted on here that their children didn't want to go because of it (on both sides, though more on the older side where the kids didn't want to be with the little ones). There's never going to be a perfect answer.
