Kia

I have a Kia Sedona minivan and I love it!!!

My husband likes my van so much that last year (when in 14 year old SUV died) he replaced it with a Kia Sorento.

The cars ride well, ALWAYS START (that's a biggie with me!) and have had no issues.

I recently test drove a 2014 Sorrento and I loved it. Then I test drove other SUVs and didnt love it anymore. It was a great price for what it came with but the comfort of the car was awful compared to others in the same class. The seats were scratchy and hard, and it drove a little stiff. I do keep my cars forever so the warranty was a big selling feature, but I just couldn't be comfortable driving it for the next 10 years.

So many people seem to love their kias, I found that unless you want a simple one the options really add up. while other cars either include them or the over all price after adding the same options on several brands ... Well the KIA seems to cost more overall. I guess the 10 year warranty is good if you keep a car long periods. I didn't like the feel or viability of most of the kia cars I tried.
Sorry ,but unless the kias in the States are different then in canada, the reverse is true.I bought a 2011 sorrento 7 seater,v6, that came with all the bells and whistles as standard in their pricing, whereas other suv's such as gm products are listed as bare bones pricing and you go from there. Not saying it is the best suv out there, but,it is a good vehicle, and it cost about 10 -15 thousand dollars cheaper than a traverse with the same options .

That may very well be the case. My old minivan is actually a Canadian version and when trying to figure out its value (for Insurance purposes) the model was not found. It had some features of a certain US model, but not all.

FYI, I ended up with a Toyota Highlander with alot of the same options that were in the Sorrento I was looking at. It was not nearly 10-15,000 more. It was more like 6,000. Granted the model years were different, 2014 KIa and 2013 Toyota, but still brand new.

One thing I think is important to remember is that if you are still in bankruptcy repayment (Chapter 13), I believe you have to ask permission from your trustee to take on new debt. You might want to make sure that it is all good to go before you get in to sign a new debt contract. Of course, if you are buying outright with cash, this won't be an issue.

The hubby and I are looking for us a new family ride.....doesn't even have to be brand new. Just something dependable. We had to file bankruptcy a few years ago (young and stupid then and way over our head), but we only have one year left. Since then my parents got us both a vehicle in their name, and we just paid them the payments and insurance. (I HAVE SUPER AWESOME PARENTS!!!) Those vehicles are not very dependable.....they haven't given us much trouble, but I just don't feel safe going long distances.....my hubby has a 2003 Chevrolet truck that has over 200,000 miles on it. We paid that off 2 months ago. And I drive a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with 130,000 miles on it. Mine will be paid off in February. Usually when we go on vacation, we have to borrow my mom's Ford Edge, and let's face it....that's just embarassing!!! So we have learned quite a lot in the last few years, and are looking for something affordable and dependable for our family. We were thinking of going with a certified pre-owned Kia Sorento. Do any of you have experience with this type of vehicle? Any advice?

KIA = Keep It Away.

look elsewhere

We own a 2012 Kia Sorrento and a 2012 Kia Forte- they are fantastic cars!!!
We previously had 2 Kia Optimas (2004) and they both ran for well over 120,000 miles. I can't recommend the Kia's enough, really really great!
My Sorrento gets so many compliments and I love driving it, but the Forte which is a small sedan is so roomy and great trunk space - and the price was fantastic on both, we bought brand new, but for the price they are a bargain!

Based on what grounds? Do you have anything to justify your statement other than the fact that it is a cute Acronym?

I love my KIA, however there is one caveat to keep in mind when considering a KIA. They are great if you intend to drive the car until it dies. The resale on them is not great because the 10 yr / 100K mile warranty does not convey.

I wasn't responding to you,but since you responded to me,yes the Highlander is a very nice vehicle. You say it's more like 6000,{ I wrote Traverse, not Highlander}which may be the case, but as in your case, when you buy a NEW vehicle that is last years model{not that there's anything wrong with that, lol, good for you},there is usually a few thousand price drop,to clear them out.A new 2013 Kia is cheaper than a new 2014 Kia too, right?
:)

The MSRP of the 2013 Kia is not 10-15K less than the MSRP when you add the options you want, of a comparable Highlander's MSRP. My point was that a Kia isnt always 10-15K less than a comparable car.

Completely agree. I have been a pricing maniac for the last few months as we'll be getting an SUV next summer and the Kia comes in lower or comparable to a Equinox with the Kia being loaded. That gets me a 3rd row, V6, Leather etc.

I am having a heck of a time choosing though. The Highlander is out because at least here, with the options I want it comes in way higher.
But then, we have a family member that can get us the GM discount so that pulls us back to the GM lineup.

Yes,when I was looking,I looked at all the 3 seaters and NOTHING came close to the Sorrento with the options included.I have a friend who works for Gm as well, and I looked at Traverse, acadia, etc, even with the discount, once you add the options the Kia had,it still came up way more expensive.Good luck!
