Hi All,

I was just hanging out reading my e-mail and this just popped up.

I received an e-mail from kGBDEALS.com(Groupon style website) AULANI 8 days; 2 adults, 2 children for travel between 8/26/2012 and 11/8/1012
Standard Room-1698 dollars
Garden View-1948 dollars
Ocean View- 2298 dollars

It just popped on the screen and one person has already purchased. The deal says it will be good for the next 6 days.

Hmm that's anywhere from $212 Standard to $287 OV per night if its 8 nights, and because it says 8 days its probably more like 7 nights which is $242 Standard or $328 Ocean view.

Not really that great of a deal, especially considering a standard studio is 18 points and an ov studio is 23 points. The standard would be the same price as renting points at $12 per point, and the OV would actually be cheaper renting points for that amount ... and considering how close the dates are you could probably find points cheaper than $12 per point.

Aren't those the dates for the construction? IIRC, some of the resort amenities will not be available during the construction period. Disney is offering CMs a 70% discount and oven DVC is offering a credit for at least a portion of that time.

While all that is true, you probably would NOT find DVC inventory available for those dates.

I do watch last minute inventory at Aulani since we live one island away and might want to pop over for a concert or something now and then.

Just for fun, I checked it for those dates. First few weeks of Sept were pretty booked, only a few days avail here and there. The 3rd week of Sept (starting on the 16th), you could get a poolside studio for most of the week. Didn't bother checking the first week of October since that's Hawaii public schools (eg the entire state) Fall break, and mostly locals are going to have it booked with the SSR/AKV points. From mid-October onward weeks were completely available in OV and PV if you were willing to switch mid-week.

And I didn't even look at 1 bdrs, which the last weekend I went there were 1 bdrs avail until a day or two out.

Interesting point about the construction being on those dates. If one booked on points, the owner would get back 2 nights worth in addition to it already being cheaper ...

Sigh. If only inter-island flights were cheaper ...
