My DH and I are very interested in taking the behind the scenes tour of the Magic Kingdom---I think it is call the Keys to the Kingdom Tour---The ticket price is rather steep, especially if you consider you have to have an admission ticket as well----can I get some feed back from my fellow DVC Members ref this tour---is it worth the cost, did you enjoy it---would it be something that our teen DD would like? :flower:

My DW and I took this tour in 1997. Although I had been to WDW many time prior to that, I always approached it from the mindset of just being a kid (which, to tell you the truth hasn't changed all that much). Nonetheless, the Keys tour gave me a much greater "adult" appreciation for how truly remarkeable the Magic Kingdom really is.

If you already know every in and out of the parks, you will still no doubt learn a thing or 2. If u've never been down to the utilidor...it is a treat to see the inner operations of the parks.....Frankly, the garbage collection system may be the most impressive thing :earsboy:

I reccomend it. As for your DD....I think it would depend on her maturity level. If mature, absolutely, she'll learn a lot and enjoy it....if not, she'll simply be laughing at seeing headless characters ;)

Enjoy!

DO IT! It's the best money I ever spent at WDW. We did it in 2000 and Loved ever minute of it. The guides are so knowledgable and answer every question. It really does give you a greater appreciation of WDW. I never looked at WDW the same after that tour - it was great!

We did the tour and loved it. As new_yawka said, it was interesting to see the inner workings of the Kingdom.

Great tour if you are really interested in behind the scenes peeks. Have you read the reviews on All Ears?

How teen is your teen? Most of the larger tours have an age limit so you should find out for sure if she is old enough.

The tour is worth the time and money. We went on the tour earlier this year and loved it. There is an age limit on the tour which I believe was 16.

You get a discount if you have an AP or PAP, but I am not sure if there is a DVC discount on tours.

The price of the tour also includes lunch at the Columbia Harbor House.

Lots of good behind the scenes info and access. Once you step behind the stage doors, you would be amazed how different the MK looks like.

My daughter and I took the tour last January. I read everything about WDW that I can get my hands on, and I had a lot of prior knowledge of what the CM on the tour talked about, however I still ADORED the whole thing. The folks that lead the tours are so enthusiastic, and will answer any questions you have. I would do it again I enjoyed it so much. As has already been said the utilidors alone are so nifty to see. I also got to see the spectro magic floats where they are stored between shows, and learn some stuff I didn't know about them. We also saw an area for cms that had a display with examples of "good show" and "bad show"--ie, women cms can only wear pale nail polish, no high heels and they actually show the acceptable colors and what is not acceptable. One thing that shocked me was that the cms have to be in full costume/makeup BEFORE they punch in--but of course they're not allowed to drive to work in costume. So they have to go get their outfit and put it on and get ready off the clock.

By the way, believe it or not the highpoint of the tour for my (then) 18 year old daughter was seeing some cms who had just been in a show in frontierland come walking "backstage" (out of sight of visitors in the park) in costume, but holding the heads to the costumes. As many of you know most cm's have to adhere to strict codes regarding hair length and facial hair (another good show/bad show thingy). The guys we saw, since when they were "onstage" the heads of the costumes hid their faces, had really long hair and many had beards and moustaches. My daughter and I, who both like long hair on men, did not stop talking about the "really hot guys" the entire rest of the trip. LOL

BTW no cameras are allowed on this tour and you are asked to promise not to reveal any secrets. I highly recommend doing it, it's really memorable.

The DW and I had a wonderfull time on the Keys to the Kingdom tour. We took the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour at DL in March and Keys to the Kindgom blows it away. You will love it.

We did it with a family group ages 20 to 82. The 20 year old DS thought it was too long. He still makes references to things we saw and did though, so he was paying attention, and may just have been complaining to hear himself talk.

My wife and I did this tour last year. It was excellent as people are saying here. I had a surprising reaction. I don't think I will ever look at Main Street the same way. Before, it was magical to me how they brought all this stuff into the MK on a daily basis. The real world just seemed so far away. Reality is closer that you think! My wife had the opposite reaction. We will be going back in a couple of weeks, we'll see how I react.

The Keys to the Kingdon tour is the BEST thing we have every done. As soon as any conversation comes up about the Magic Kingdom....it's the first thing my husband or I suggest to someone to do on their next trip home. It is worth every cent - guaranteed full of info you'll never forget! :rockband:
