My husband and I just booked a last minute trip to WDW next weekend, piggybacking on a trip to see family and friends in Florida. I splurged and booked the "Keys to the Kingdom tour" on our MK day. We have always talked about doing this, and with this trip involving no children it seemed like a perfect time.

If anyone has done this tour, could I get your comments. Where do you have lunch on the tour?

I did this tour a few years ago on a solo trip. It was amazing! Even if you know a lot about WDW, you will learn something. My guide was amazing. My favorite part was the Utilidors. Not because we were down there to see them, but when we got to a photo from WDW's opening day. The guide told a little story about that day, and he got so emotional telling the story that it just really touched my heart. It was my 2nd favorite thing I've ever done at MK (first was MNSSHP). Our lunch was at CHH, but I believe they've changed it fairly recently. CHH was nice because they reserved a big section for us upstairs. It was quiet, and being that I was a solo traveler, I got seated with the guide and got more stories. It truly was a wonderful experience!

So good to know. I am doing my first solo trip in October and plan to do both Keys to the Kingdom and MNSSHP. Can't wait!

We went on the tour in June of 2017. Lunch was at Tomorrow Land Terrace. Don't do the tour for the lunch. Do the tour for the tour. The tour is great!

My DD (16, raised on Dis), Mom (late 70s but avid walker) & I did this last August. My DD & I are big Disney trivia buffs; this was her Sweet 16 splurge trip so we also did Lunch with an Imagineer & Backstage Safari (w/o my mom). Frankly I was disappointed & would rank KttK 3rd of these experiences. (If you’re interested, Brown Derby Lunch with an Imagineer was #1 (shout out to Ryan who was working on TSM) & Safari Trek was #2.

Why? I had hoped to go backstage at all 4 parks but it’s down to 2: Epcot (where you start) & MK. You also see the Costume Dept., Laundry, & prop shop. Lunch was at Whispering Canyon (not my favorite atmosphere but tasty and plentiful food). They kept saying you were seeing something special but if you read enough trip reports, all KttK guests see these ‘special’ things. Also, our group didn’t gel. That said, it’s totally fine to do as a single-you probably won’t be the only one. If you’re really into mechanics, you might find it more interesting.

Hope this helps!

From your description it sounds like you did the Backstage Magic tour, not Keys to the Kingdom tour. I’ve read about Backstage Magic and it sounds cool, I’ve never done it, but definitely loses value if it’s only 2 parks now and not 4.

Did this a few years ago and loved it. I consider myself pretty well read and studied on disney theme park history, but they told us things in which i had no idea about. Totally worth it. A few rides they took us on without waiting were Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, and pirates. Lunch included was at CHH, but they may have changed that recently.

DS insisted that we go to Disney for his 16th birthday and we did KTTK on his birthday!! Loved it!! Very fun to tour the utilidors. DS is now in CP and says going behind the scenes is the most fun part for him!

This is the Backstage tour, Keys to the Kingdom is in Magic Kingdom none the less sorry that you didn't enjoy it

We have done it twice. Both times we ate at the Carriage House. The rides were slightly different - I think they vary from time to time. Usually Pirates and HM are consistent though. The tour is great, but it can be a lot of walking and standing so make sure you are well rested and up for long periods of standing.

Overall, it's a great tour and well worth it as long as you are not one to feel like the magic is ruined if you know how it works.

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or ask here but, where does the KTTK tour end? I'm doing it in May and am curious if you end on Main Street or elsewhere in the park. Thank you!!

We ended on Main Street through a backstage door. By the hat shop that embroiders.

I did this tour on a solo trip too and loved it. You learn a lot. Great for Disney fanatics.

In September, our tour ended in Town Square near the steps to the Train Station. Pluto was meeting nearby and he came over to make his way through our group!

Hi. Thank you all for the feedback. This makes me excited for our October Adult trip, for we are doing this tour along with the behind the seeds.
