My family (mom, dad, me-14, and brother-9) are goin to Key West in 10 days. We are driving from Ft. Lauderdale down to Key West. We have never been there before, so I was wondering if there was anything that we shouldn't miss (in Key West or on the way). Are there any good restaurants? We are planning on going to see Hemmingway's (sp?) cats. Anything else to do? Thanx for any info you can give me.

go to the southernmost point, its worth it...its cool to see....and the hard rock cafe is a good place to eat at. There are also many different shops and stuff. You'll have lots of fun. I'll tell you more when i have more time... :D

thanks for the extremely quick reply!! LOL!!! We were already planning on Hard Rock. We were at the one in Pittsburgh this weekend and we said that it would be cool to go to all of the Hard Rocks! Maybe someday!!

I've also been to a bunch of Hard Rock Cafe's.

New York, Orlando, Nassau, London, Atlantic City, Boston, Miami, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Hollywood FL.

Just a few!

Anything else I should do down there?

We are leaving Friday afternoon, so I need more info. But thanx to everyone who has replied so far!! :cool1:

i was there for less than a day in july '03... lol... it was a stop on the DCL, so yeah... We basically just walked around and went into random shops.
The sunset was absolutely GORGEOUS tho. So make sure you see it every night!

...sorry i'm not much help

Key West used to be soo nice, and now it's way too commercial. For my graduation gift my mom and dad took my sister and I to Daytona Beach, WDW, Key Largo, and Key West, and the Keys weren't anything that I was expecting. My mom and dad said that there's too much tourism around them now, and it isn't anything what it used to be, so it was sort of a disappointment for me. However...

Definately see the Southern-most Point of the Continental U.S. marker. I have a picture of my family and myself when I was about five, and I got another one taken this summer and it's a pretty cool picture. Also, definately eat at the Hard Rock Cafe. It's sort of small compared to other ones, but it's definately my favorite place to eat when I go to big tourist spots. The marker also doesn't lie when it says "Home of the Sunset" ... My mom got the most amazing pictures, it's almost like looking at a painting. Other than that, the shops are fun to look through. Also, beware of the small farm-animals running around. ;) You'll see when you get there, if you go to that one spot... :)

I will definitely have to make sure I see the sunset. Thanks for all the great tips!! More are always welcomed

:earseek: hey i went on the Disney Cruise last year and i went there and it was great.I think the best place i went to was the aquarium.there was alot to see.Hope you have a good time there. :D

i am going to be staying in key west so all of these tips are helping me too. i love the hard rock and i will tell my mom (aka THE PLANNER) to make sure we eat there.

Well, I'm here!!! Thanx for all the tips. We were at the aquarium yesterday and I looked up and I saw the Disney Magic (there were a lot of people there from DCL)!!! Then we went to the dock where the cruise ships were and saw the Carnival glory and the Magic. So my mom said that maybe next January, we can do the DCL and WDW thing (don't know what its called- DCL for part of the time and WDW the rest). So anyways, we went to Duvall Street (the whole shopping area) and the Sunset Celebration. We haven't been to a beach yet, maybe today. Thanks again everyone!!!
Oh yeah, we ate at the Hard Rock (It doesn't even look like one from the outside, the only way we knew what it was was by looking at the sign)!! I'm going to go back and get a T-shirt from there one of tese. It has been pretty cold here though. Like 60-70, which is pretty warm, but it is really windy so hopefuly it warms up soon.

I just got back today (already missing Florida). We went to Hemmingway's house (only so that I could see all the cats LOL). We also went and shopped at Duval Street and went to the sunset celebration at Mallory Square. The street performers were kind of cool. It was fun. It wasn't as cool as I expected (thought there would be a lot more and it would be more scenic), but it was nice to get away. I got an awesome welcome home by the snow (not)!! Thanks for all of your help.
