Dang you Undercover Boss!! DW and I watched the NCL CEO episode last week and got to talking about a cruise (been on 2 - NCL and RCI).

So we have OKW booked for May 1 - 6. Driving down with the convertible and will be spending at least one day visiting my aging mom in Ft. Pierce.

As I already have vacation for 2 weeks, I starting looking at cruises the last week of April. After looking at all the cruise lines and Florida ports, finally settled on a Carnival 5 day Bahamas cruise out of Jacksonville. We are going steerage class to save money, and since we really don't spend much time in the cabin, we're actually looking forward to it. This is going to work out so well for us.
+ We'll save a few hours on the drive down by only having to go to Jacksonville on day 1.
+ We'll have 1 1/2 days to spend with my mom with our having to cut into our WDW/OKW time.
+ Travel expenses are already addressed as we were driving down anyway.
+ We really love cruising, and what better way to create a wonderful vacation.
+ DD is still at home so we have a built in pet sitter. Now that's one thing we'll miss when she moves out this summer.
+ The extra cost is really decent considering the value added.

As much as we would have liked to try DCL, the $$$ and itinerary just did not align with our spontaneous addition plans.

So we have port calls at Key West and Nassau. It will be very interesting to experience Key West and then stay at OKW later and see how well Disney captured the 'Key West' atmosphere.

Now here's where you get to play. DW and I are planning shore excursions and would love your insights. We both love to snorkel, but we also want to do some local sightseeing.

Key West - snorkel, Conch tour or just do our own thing?

Nassau - The SegWay at Nassau looks very interesting. We could possibly squeeze a snorkeling excursion in after the Segway.

Also to save money, we'll most likely book our excursions on-line vice through Carnival. On our Hawaiian NCL cruise, we saved over $300 booking our excursions separately.

Thank you in advance for your input. Any hotel recommendation in the Ft Pierce area? We thought of doing one night at Vero Beach but the points for 4/30 are insane.

I've snorkeled in Key West and Nassau, and my Nassau esperience was much much better than what I saw in Key West.

In Key West I especially enjoyed visiting the Truman Little White House museum.

and we did do the conch tour as well.
Zachary Taylor State Park has a small lovely beach with picnic tables.

I think DVC got the Key West feeling in OKW, I look forward to hearing what you think!

We also love just walking around Key West. I think it is our favorite cruise port.

If you are a lover of cruising, DCL is fun, but $$$. Some day give Celebrity a look.
Beautiful Solstice class ships and some great prices.

We watched the NCL undercover Boss episode as well.
Can't wait to sail on the Epic and ask where the ice skating rink is, comment on how much we wanted to skate :rolleyes1:lmao:

Yes, that was pretty interesting the way the CEO got to experience the irritation that the crew experiences.
When he saw what they had to go thru to make that rink, and then nobody used it, boom, gone!
Too bad CEOs can't always do that!

I saw that episode too! I loved the way he immediately dumped the skating rink. What a waste! I believe RCL has ice skating on some of their ships -- I wonder if the same effort is required. I've never seen it myself.

We have our 2011 WDW trips booked. The second one includes a 3-day cruise on the Dream, which I'm really looking forward to. I think in 2012, I am going to schedule a nice week-long cruise out of NYC for us.

We did Freedom last year. It is an official skating rink, not a portable one!
