Has anyone done this with small kids? I was thinking that my DS who is 4 might enjoy it, but I read that it lasts 60-90 minutes and I am wondering if he would get bored. He doesn't like to sit still for too long, so if it really goes 90 minutes, that might be pushing it for him. Although he loves trains so I thought he would like that part (at least for the first 5 minutes). So, I wanted to see if anyone else has done this with small kids. And if so, did you do it through the ship or on your own? It sounds easy enough to do on your own, but I wondered if the one booked through the ship might be a shorter trip.

Thanks for the help!

my son was five or six the first time he did the conch train, and he loved it. I think this is a fun thing for kids and adults alike and it gives you a wonderful overview and points out all the highlights of Key West in an hour or so. The conductor will point out all the famous landmarks along the way, and you got to see a lot.

I have never taken this excursion but I have taken my kids on a train ride. They are 3 and 4 and the ride was about 90 minutes. They did get pretty antsy in the end but did fine for that length of time. Will there be a bathroom on board or bathroom stops? I was nervous that my kids would have to go but there was as stop half way. Have a great time!

Hi. From what I've read about the Key West trolley, you can get off at any stop, then get back on. You complete one "loop"-getting on and off as much as you want. I think that's plenty of variety.

The trolley does offer the on and off option. The train is a bit more structured, but it does stop twice (I think). I remember stopping briefly near the southern most point in the US. We definitely stopped at the place that we got on which had a little shop attached. I think we made one more loop through the city before coming back to the original point. My kids were 8 and 10 when we did it, but unless your kids are REALLY fidgety, I'd think it would be fine with them.

Definitely do this on your own. The only thing the DCL excursion does is get you to the train. It's within a 1/2 mile of the dock, and very easy to find. If you go to the web site for the trolley/train, they used to have coupons, and give you a discount if you booked online. I'd highly encourage it! It was fun.

The train driver was really nice, and gave my kids a little souvenier of the trip (I think it was a piece of 8, or something like that!)

We did the train tour in May with our 3 DD's (ages 8, 6 and 2). The train tour does not let you get on and off like the trolley does, but I thought the kids would like a choo choo train better. They liked it for about 20 minutes and then they were bored. I got bored about 10 minutes after that, I must confess. Halfway through the tour, the train comes back to the starting point so that you can get off and go to the bathroom and whatnot. Then you get back on and do the last half of the tour. We got off and did not get back on. If I were going to choose one of these tours with kids or without, I would do the trolley tour so you can come and go as you please. For me, I didn't find Key West very interesting, so if I do the Western route again I will probably stay on the ship that day.

We did the trolley with a 4 and 7 year old. They loved it. They got to sit right next to the driver for awhile and we got on and off as we pleased.

I would recommend this, as I know my boys would not have sat for the train ride. I had friends that went on the train and did not have a good time, the kids were bored.

Also, as stated before it is easy to get to the trolleys without taking the Disney excursion. Plus if you buy the tickets online they are cheaper.

Have a great time!!!
