Key West Sunset

We are going on the April 23 Western cruise. From what I have read, the sunset in Key West is not to be missed. Where would be the best place to see it? Also, does anybody know approx. what time sunset will be on the 24th? We have early dinner seating, so would we have enough time to eat, and still see it?

The sunset time will be printed in the Daily Personal Navigator...or you can go to www.usno.navy.mil and click on "sun rise/set"...(as noted in the DCL Passporter)

It should be setting around 6:30'ish. We had early seating too and my husband stepped out on the boat deck for a few minutes to see it and take pictures. It was perfect.

Can the sunset be viewed nicely from the ship?

Every night they have a sunset celebration on the pier with different acts: sword swallower, trapez, cat acts, pet acts, jugglers, etc. We missed supper (early seating on Jan cruise) that night so that we could go see the different acts--my kids loved it! (DS9 and DS13) The sunset was just the frosting on the cake. And yes, it is an amazing sunset!

Indeed, the sunset in Key West is just lovely. However, there is generally a large crowd in Mallory Sq. as the sunset time approaches, and unless you are at the front, or over 6ft tall, you will be better to view the sunset from the ship. Be sure to mix with the crowds and see the street performers in the "run up" to sunset, but you cant beat watching the sun go down from your verandah/deck with a large glass of "something" in your hand! Bliss. Nat

We ate in Palo at sunset time in Key West. Worked great. Nice to be out of the crowd on the dock. Our servers let us get up and go out on the aft deck, even took our picture during the sunset. But coming from Colorado, where the sun lingers a long time, the Key West sunset was quick, real quick. The kids were in the clubs and did not regret missing the dock party. Don't forget to check out a sunrise or two while the ship is at sea, they were fantastic and the ship is very quiet, just a few joggers and photographers.
