I didn't see this thread until now. Your chances of Key West through RCI are slim to none, esp any time most people want to go. RCI only has 3 resorts in KW and only 1 I'd want to stay at, the Galleon. They only have 17 in the Keys total. On the DVC list there are only 2 resorts listed, the Galleon (in both II and RCI) and the Hammocks, a Bluegreen Property in Marathon. I'd think one would be better off renting out the points, talking to Hyatt members for a direct exchange and talking to several of the independent exchange companies to see if they have anything or have a tie in. If the Hammocks is workable for you, I'd think you could fairly easily work out a direct exchange if both parties were reasonable on terms. You'd just need to plan 11-15 months out, the longer the better.

Don't know anything about the resorts, but I do know the geography of the Keys. Just be aware that Marathon is 60 miles from Key West.

Marathon is in the pretty middle part of the Keys. Nice destination if your objectives are fishing or diving (or chillin'), but about 1 to 1 1/2 hours drive time from KW depending on day of the week and traffic.

I don't know about RCI, but I do know that when DVC was with II it was possible. One time I was staying at Hyatt Sunset Harbor (on Hyatt points) and was talking to someone at the pool, and they had exchanged in using BWV DVC points.

Like Maui, II was better situation for exchanges into KW with the 3 Hyatt's and Galleon as top resorts.

I was interested in doing the same, trading for the Keys. When I spoke with RCI DVC MS, I was told there was almost no chance it would come through for my dates (2013 Easter week), since most of the members don't trade out of their KW resorts.

I was alittle bummed about it, but DH isn't much of a beach person and a full week with mostly beach might not work great for us.

As others have said, RCI trades are very limited in Key West. Galleon is your best RCI bet but is very difficult to get. The 3 Hyatt's trade through II. I've done a private rental from a Hyatt Sunset Harbor owner and that worked out great. You might offer a trade for DVC on TUG (tug2.net) or look for a rental there. Good luck!
