Any recent Western cruisers know of a grocery store or market within walking distance of Mallory Square that sells gallon jugs of water? Since that's our first port, I can avoid having to drag a gallon around with me on embarkation day if I know I can buy it in Key West. I'll pack a few individual bottles, and then refill from the gallon during the week.

Shirley should be able to answer your question, you may want to email her directly in case she's busy and can't get on the boards for a few days...

That's a great idea though, not having to lug bottled water. I'm just planning on bringing a couple of 24 oz bottles and then refill them from the deck 9 station, where I hear the water isn't bad.

We bought a couple bottles with thermal covers. Each evening we filled them from our bathroom sink, put them in the cooler in the room overnight, put the covers on in the morning and had cool water during our excursions. We felt that the water on the ship was fine and that there was no need to buy water anywhere.

Hey there -
First I believe the imput of using the ship water sounds great, but if you are interested in buying water in Key West - the closest store I know to Mallory square is Fausto's which is on the corner of Fleming and Bahama Street - Fleming Street is where you pass to go to Jimmy Buffett's or where the Hotel La Concha is - Norm and I will be going "home" in another week WHOOPPEEEEEE and I will be checking out a lot of stuff while there. BTW Norm and I were watching the Travel Channel the other night and they had some of the most "Haunted" places to see throughtout the world - would you believe they said that Hard Rock Cafe in Key West has a ghost - I do not know where Norm, me or our families were when all these ghost where suppose to exist, but we learn something new every so often - the Hard Rock Cafe use to be the teenagers only club house called Club 551 and we was always there - the ghost must have been our chaprones for we never saw or heard them -- anyhow the only place we heard about as kids was the Gato House on the corner of White and Virigina Street - this once was a hospital were many men died of war and yellow fevor - I l grew up 2 doors down from it and during my growing up years never experienced a "meeting" with a ghost but I always heard that it was haunted sounds maybe a stranger knows more than us conchs - just a tidbit - sometimes don't believe everything you hear or read -

Hi, Sue! When we went in July, we bought soda and water at Millie's Convenience Store. When you walked out of Mallory Square, it was about two blocks to the left, next to the Ben and Jerry's. Shirley can probably tell you the name of the street, cause I forgot.

Thanks for the quick replies! Nice to see you again, Sandy :-)

I actually prefer my water room temperature, so buying a gallong jug and setting it in the cabin will work better for me than going to the beverage station or buying the chilled water on the ship. I can carry it with me in smaller bottles when I'm off the ship.

Brita makes a quart sized container w/filter. It's small enough to pack easily, doesn't weigh much, and filters nicely. I'm plan to bring it, along with a couple of empty water bottles and I think we'll be all set.

Have a great cruise!
