Key To The World Charges

Does anyone know if you can leave Disney Gift Cards and Travelers Checks at check in instead of a credit card in order to charge items with the Key To The World? For instance if I want the ability to charge $1000 can I leave this amount in Gift Cards and not have $1000 pre-authorized on my credit card. I really don't want to tie up the credit card in this way when I intend to pay off the bill with the Gift Cards and Travelers Checks.

I believe you can leave these items. But one thing, they do not pre authorize any amount on your credit card. They check that it is valid, but no charges are made until you check out. The only time a charge would be made before you check out would be if you hit the authorization amount for your resort level. So, you could still leave the credit card, and pay it with the gift cards when you check out. You can also pay it each day if you want. Go to the front deska nd ask to pay whatever has been charged that day.

I just want to back up what brentalex said.

When you set up your room charge with a credit or debit card, they DO NOT place a hold on it or pre-charge or anything like that. They run a charge for zero dollars and zero cents just to make sure it's a valid card attached to an open account.

And yes, travelers checks or Disney gift cars will work to set up a room charge also. Same with cash and Disney Dollars.

I did it with pre paid visa when we stayed @ the GF. I personally paid every night just to see what I was spending. How much of a limit do they give you?

The only thing I would be concerned about would be if you leave a $1K deposit in gift cards and you dont use all $1K, the front desk might not be able to refund the unused amount immediately and it might have to be mailed in the form of a refund check. But I am not sure how it works. But agreeing with the other posters, your credit card doesn't have a hold when it is swiped at check in. I was at POP a few weeks ago and thats how mine worked.

The maximum limit, by level of resort, is as follows: Values $500; Moderates $1,000; Deluxes $1,500.

You can request a smaller limit if you want.

If you reach your limit, you can very quickly verbally authorize (by phone, etc.) another one.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I guess I will leave the credit card and pay for it either every few days or at check out. The person who posted about perhaps having difficulty getting back a balance left on a Gift Card brought up a good point.
