can I ask for a key card instead of a magic band? If using a key card, how do you check in when getting on the magical express? Give them your reservation number?

Yes you can request that. It will work just as the band does now (which is how it used to work pre bands).

No one needs the band for magical express. No international visitor is sent a band, after all. So yes just bring the letter with your info on it. Or just give them your name.

The card links to MDE just like the band does. Anything on MDE will be found when you scan the card.

Some resorts do not like to give out key cards, preferring for everyone to use their magic bands. Just be persistent.
