Kevin's Jiko Review

Just wanted to thank Kevin (and NikkiBell for inviting Kelvis) for the review of Jiko. Val & I haven't done Jiko for several years but keep thinking we need to go back. We haven't because of rotating through a bunch of other favorite restaurants. We're going to be at WDW in mid-March and have ADR's for an adults night out dinner at Jiko.

We're looking forward to it even more now, especially because we know that our likes/dislikes often (not always) match Kevin's when it comes to dining. Thanks again for the review.

I adore Jiko. We always hit it at least once a year. I can never get myself to stray away from the mac & cheese filet though. If they'd serve that mac & cheese and cabernet sauce with something else I'd get it. The filet is SO not the star of the show for me!

BTW, I liked the lavendar ice cream, but didn't expect the taste at first. It was different and neat to try. I love lavendar though. I was trying to grow it for my classroom (we could use all of the aromatherapy we can get lol), but it died while I was at WDW. I forgot to ask the kids to water it.

The filet is probably going to be my choice when we go to Jiko, Nikki. I love the filet at the Yachtsman (currently our #1 WDW restaurant choice). I've been really missing the tillamook cheddar mac n' cheese that Artist Point used to pair with a pork chop, but when they removed that from their menu a couple of years ago, AP dropped off the #1 spot on our list. So, having both mac 'n cheese and filet in one dish will be great!

Now if they only served the pull apart onion rolls with the spreadable garlic & slab of butter like at YSH, I'd be in heaven!

We also liked Jiko but didnt care for the Taste of Africa but loved the Califlower soup and Curry shrimp. sooooo good. My husband loved the filet too!

I've had the monkfish dish years ago before the term "sustainable" ever needed mentioning. I think Jiko has used the same tomato butter sauce for various fish over the years as they replaced the monkfish with other varieties. Still delicious, though. I've had the filet and mac, too. Those are my typical choices.

But I have to agree with Kevin about lavender ice cream. I've had that somewhere else. And I thought I was eating perfume. Blecch. I also agree that restaurants seem to follow the trend to put skid marks of sauces on plates. Another trend: Salt on butter. And salted caramel in desserts.

I am 100% all about the sea salt on the bread butter. I just love it!!!! Narcoossee's is the best. They use a pink Hawaiian sea salt. Yummy AND pretty!!!

Love Jiko too. But my family doesn't. Has anyone sat at the bar area?

We have stayed at AKL three times now and have not been to Jiko! Next visit we will be making a ressi. I did not care for Boma as a buffet, but Jiko sounds like it is more of a fine dining experience and I am not a buffet person.
