Keurig owners

My DH loves his but
Pros
*I don't have to make coffee. I hate coffee but I love the smell.
*I don't have to clean a coffee pot and deal with the grounds.
* The one we bought matches the kitchen, stainless, but we are liking the looks of the Cuisinart more with a bigger water resevoir.
Cons
*He has yet to find a flavor he likes and hates to buy a big box to find out they taste awful. I know we will order more samples (but we are still stuck with 5) but he tries about 6 flavors each morning and has found 2 he likes. We have so much in the cupboard that nobody will touch.
*Everything I think we might want try has to be ordered as does his favorite. I wish they had a big bin someplace where you could get just one K-Cup of a certain flavor and try it (in quanities of course).
*Using distilled water.

I agree with all the responses you've gotten so far. The Keurig has been wonderful for our family. We all get our favorite cups, and I don't get the mess of cleaning up/throwing out the pot.

I try to keep our cups to 40 cents each if possible. The only con my dh has it that he like his coffee super hot, so he pops his cup in the microwave after he brews it. No biggie for him. We only have one cup a day each so it works out great. Anytime we have company though, I also pull out the coffee pot. However, I do get a look of disappointment from our guests!! LOL

I also want to suggest to Disnydad: Did you try descaling the machine with vinegar? I have read that people have thrown out their machines without doing this first. Also, did you try to clean out the puncture needle with a toothpick or pin. Sometimes a coffee ground gets lodged in there and stops the water from going thru.

Throw it out..... did they register it and contact the company and get anew one. I have known several people who have done that. Then before getting rid of what they thought was the broken on they shook it, and it just started working.

You should not use distilled water. From the user manual: "For the best-tasting gourmet coffee, tea, or hot cocoa, Keurig recommends using bottled or filtered water. We do not recommend using distilled or reverse osmosis water." Plain, filtered water is fine.

As far as flavors go, there are K-Cup swaps out there for people who want to trade. Also, there are several products which allow you to use your own favorite brand for a lot less cost including the K-Kap, Solofill, Keurig's own basket product, etc.

What is different about the solofil, versus the my k cup?
/

From what I've gathered, the way the water is pushed through the Solofill is different. You also don't have to remove any of the Keurig "parts" to put the Solofill in, meaning you can go from a K-Cup to the Solofill hassle-free. The reviews on Amazon have been outstanding, so I'm dying to give it a try.

Right now, my K-Kap thing is working well with my Dunkin' coffee. Perfect cup every time.

Hmmm, I have been trying to talk myself out of buying a keurig but this conversation is making it harder ;) I have a questions, though. I went on their website and browsed the different styles. The mini and the Mr. Coffee apparently only do 8 oz cups and you add the water each time. The mini also accomodates "short" travel mugs. I use TMs for work ... how do I know if it is "short" or not? LOL Also, the pictures for the other machines show a 48 oz water container. Um, isn't that a BUNCH of water to make a cup of coffee? I'm assuming it doesn't use it all at once but if you make a cup a day what do you do only fill with as much as needed? Wouldn't the water get scuzzy if it sat there for days?

I'm trying to decide if I REALLY need this or if it is just my inner yuppie screaming for the latest gadget  I have a little 5 cup but I don't really need that much on a general basis (and I'm the only coffee drinker.) Plus I like a cup of hot tea at night and DS11 likes hot chocolate on occasion....

I agree with both about the ease of having a Keurig. We got ours in 2009 for Christmas and love it! My husband and I are not huge coffee drinkers so when we are in the mood for a cup this works out fantastic. I also just got the my k-cup filter and love that as well. Sometimes it can be a pain but what isnt these days right? IMO the keurig is great for just about every need you may have. The cons would be the price of k-cups when you use them frequently but we joined the keuirg k cup club and often recieve buy 2 boxes get 2 free with free shipping and 10% off so we end up with 96 k cups for about 26 dollars! Not too bad!!

I made an order today and got k-cups for 23 cents a piece - good price.

the biggest things with k-cups is that you have to be on the lookout for deals and stock up! same deal - buy 2 get two, free ship, 10% off, 3 dollar off coupon, and then they had a promo for 2 free sample packs.

Pros- hardly any maintenance and cleanup
convenience of 1 cup servings

Cons- unless you use 2 k-cups at a time, they can be watery. I like my coffee strong though.
The K-cups can be expensive. I buy 2 boxes of 18 each from Bed, Bath and Beyond and use a $5 coupon and I pay $15. They have boxes of 80 at Costco for around $32 ( I think). Which is good if you like the flavor.

My Keurig broke also and they shipped a new one right out along with a bunch of K-cups.

we have a swap set up to try different flavors and get rid of those you may not like....check it out http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2387329&page=12

What club did you join to get all those discounts and did you get them all at once? By what club I actually mean who is the club through? Keurig.com, Green Mountain Coffee.com? Thanks

In the bigger machines, there is enough water for several cups of coffee. It always has a "cup" already heated and ready to go. You put in a K-cup and 30 seconds later, you're drinking your coffee. The way I understand it, you have to wait for the single cup machines to heat the water for each cup so it takes longer. The water resevoir is covered and I have not had any problems with water getting scuzzy. If you don't use it for several days, you do lose water to evaporation. I will usually just run a cup of water through each day if no one uses the machine for coffee.

We have had the Platinum for about a year and a half and we love it!

Do not use distilled water. We have an RO system, but we just use our regular, non RO tap water.

We've had no problems with the water getting "scuzzy". :)

So we bought ours today!!! :cool1::cool1:We love it we got the Platinum one and we got a really big discount on it to from kohls. Long story short my dd's have amg dolls and doll clothing from there dyed the arms and legs in places and they offered to send them to the doll hospital and my girls chose not too so they offered to meet with us and give us a discount on our next purchase well he gave us 40 percent off everything!!!! It was so nice of them. I had my first cup of tea and my hubby had a cup of coffee so good!

Side note question do u keep it on all the time or just plugged in? Thanks

I got the mini for work and my biggest disappointment is that it will not accommodate a travel mug at all. It won't even fit my "I am not a paper cup" cup. It is a fail in design, IMO, but the smaller footprint of the mini is worth it. I'm still on the hunt for a travel mug that fits, but until then, I'll brew into a measuring cup and pour it over. Not ideal, but it works.

For taller cups we remove the tray the cup sits on and it fits, not sure how tall you travel mug.

K-cups are single serve permanent cups that you can fill with your bulk coffee or tea grounds, makes things less expensive. I got my k-cup with my Keurig, but have noticed them in Target and other stores right next to the single use cups and the Keurig's themselves.

That would solve the problem of wanting a very strong coffee or weak coffee or just plain everday folgers type stuff.

The cost for the k-cup was not expensive as I recall.

We Love, Love Love ours. My DH likes a cup of coffee usually every night, I dont. When I do drink coffee, usually in the morning only, I like flavored coffee. DH doesnt. I had my family over for breakfas Xmas morning and we each had something different. My sister likes decaf, her hubby likes regular.. and so on.... it was so worth it.

I even bot a mini one I leave at work. The coffee there is horrible.

We have had our for years,, It has been so long that I forgot when my wife purchased it for me. The k-cup filter is a must which will give the options of experimenting with different coffees. If mine ever stops working I will purchase another one that same day can't live with out it.

Nobody really needs it, but it's a fun gadget to have!

It's perfect for me because I am the only coffee drinker except when company comes.

The scuzzy water idea - I usually dump out the water in the reservoir and fill with fresh every day or so - I'm not sure it's necessary but that's just me. I also run plain water through to sort of clean it every few cups - I notice there are usually some coffee grinds in the cup of water. Mine is brand new from xmas, but I've had a Tassimo which is pretty similar and they do get dirty in the brewing area from coffee and hot chocolate and in the case of the Tassimo - milk products spattering. If it were sitting for some days such as vacation, I'd probably run a few cups of water before I'd actually brew anything. There is a filter system available for Keurig. Maeva filter comes standard with Tassimo.

I had no interest in the mini models - I like features! (even when I don't use them)

Ours has a power button on the back. We keep it plugged in but powered off when not in use.
